“Al, this is crazy,” Tina said, shaking her head. “Do you know how much trouble we can get into by faking somebody’s identity?”

“Tina, you don’t get it,” Alice was getting more excited. “This is all connected. It seems that Destiny is watching over our lives right now and offering her help. Kit had a paternal bi-racial half-sister. Bette is an assumed half-sister of Kit’s ancestor who is also bi-racial. They are really connected through time and space, don’t you see. This is unbelievable. We don’t even need to alter the birth certificate. Elsa is short for Elizabeth and the only problem I see is that Bette would be three years older than she is. I wonder if she speaks French.”

Alice went on rumbling about the wonderful gift that destiny just dropped on their laps. Tina and Kit looked at each other and smiled, silently acknowledging that this crazy scheme that Alice was trying to pull off might work.

Finally, Alice stopped talking, wiping the perspiration from her forehead, “I’m a genius.” She looked at Tina and Kit and smiled excitedly, “So what do you think, ladies?”

“Well, if I can persuade my father that Bette is his daughter, then I think it might work.”

Tina thought for a moment about Kit’s statement and then said, “Do you think Melvin would request a DNA test? If it comes back negative we are doomed.”

“The DNA tests are not 100% accurate and you forget that Kit and Bette are sort of related so maybe it will match somehow,” Alice answered, still in high spirits after such a brilliant idea that she came up with.

“I hope that Melvin will fall under Bette’s charm as the rest of us have done, and then there will be no need for DNA test at all,” Tina said, still trying to convince herself that Alice’s plan would work.

“Let me call him and set up a dinner,” Kit said. “It’s about time he and I forge a new relationship, as well.”

“Okay then, we’d better get back to the table before Bette is completely freaked out. I’m going to take her home and talk to her in private,” Tina said, walking to the door. “By the way Al, I’m taking Bette to the CAC tomorrow. Want to come along?”
