Chapter 51: Love is not that simple (Alice arrives with an intervention and it causes Bette’s little meltdown)

(Previously) “It was my birthday…the day that I found your miniature. The next day I was outside and the same lady was passing by again. I was looking at the painting because since I have found it, I couldn’t bear to be separated from it. The old lady stopped and said, “Well, hello again, Christina.”

“I smiled at her and showed her the miniature. She took it into her hands and sort of gasped but it was so inaudible that I thought I’d imagined it. She returned the miniature to me and asked, “Do you know who is this lady on the painting?”

“No,” I replied, “But I think that she is the most beautiful princess.

“The old lady smiled and said, “I hope one day you’ll meet your princess, dear.” I just stood there, not knowing what to say and finally uttered, “Thank you…um…I’m sorry I don’t know your name…”

“Call me Clarice, dear…and remember, cherish this painting.

“Why?” I asked, clasping the miniature to my chest. The old lady smiled and replied, “One day you will know why…”

“Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” Tina asked excitedly.

“It’s impossible, T…” Bette replied, suddenly feeling afraid and anxious.

“You being here might seem impossible too but your presence proves otherwise,” Tina pulled Bette closer, sensing her girlfriend’s anxiety.

“But how would she know who you were and where you lived?” Bette said nervously, beginning to panic. She felt as if some unseen forces were trying to tell her something or prepare her for an unexpected turn of events…and the thought of any changes was scaring her.

“Maybe she was really an oracle,” Tina replied, running her fingers through Bette’s hair and trying to calm her down.

Bette relaxed again under Tina’s gentle touch and whispered, “I’m so lucky to have you.”

“I think we are both lucky, Bette…don’t worry, we’ll figure it out.”

    “What do you think happened?”

“Well, from the looks of it, Clarice somehow found out about the time portal and traveled through it from 1875 to 1995…I guess it always keeps the distance of 120 years but it wasn’t just once in three months since she was present in my time on May 23 but back in 1875 on May 30 when she had met you…so it could be a weekly thing.”
