Over Me: Chapter 10

By the next morning we had decided that perhaps it was best if I made the move home. It was obvious we were unable to keep to our agreement under the same roof and besides, neither of us were ready for this to be permanent. I was glad that Al felt the same way; that she wanted this to work enough not to let us fall back into old routines.

It didn’t take me long to pack my few bits and pieces up and suddenly I was by the door; breakfast not sitting well in a stomach that was full of nervous tension. I still had no idea if Lara had continued to live at my place and was a bit too gutless to call ahead. It didn’t seem likely that she would be waiting there, but it certainly wasn’t helping my nerves.

Al was standing by my packed bag, looking adorably ruffled. We’d succumbed to a morning make-out session and every time I looked at her all I wanted to do was kiss her again. I felt like a teenager or something.

"Well, I guess I’m all set…" I started.

Alice flicked the hair out of her eyes and nodded, head tilted.

"Call me. I mean, call me later if you want…"

"I’ll miss you." I said softly, trying to meet her gaze.

A grin spread across her face, her eyes searching my features.

"Me too."

I touched her cheek, stroking it gently with the back of my hand.

"We’re good, right?"

She took my hand in hers for a moment. "We’re good."

I reluctantly reached for the door and Al passed me my bag. "I’ll see you soon."

"You will." She paused, and quirked an eyebrow. "Hey, I was going to go see Carmen tonight to apologise for missing her birthday, wanna come?"

I smiled. "Sure."

As I took in my last glimpses of her, the door shutting behind me, I thought ahead to what we’d planned. It had been Al’s idea. We would just kinda start dating again and see where it led. We knew we wanted to be together but without any pressure and this seemed the perfect way to start things afresh. I had it in mind to take her to a really nice restaurant I knew out of town for our "first date"…
