Chapter 5

It’s a beautiful late Saturday afternoon and Jodie looks at her watch to see that she is 10 minutes late.  She hurries inside eager to get to her meeting. Today is the day that they’ll be planning the student presentation details for the show.  She has the list of students and their work and wants to go over it with the director as soon as possible.

She walks into the center of the room and stops in astonishment.  Kelly Wentworth looks right at her. 

“Hello, Jodie. Fancy seeing you here.”  Kelly stands there smirking.  She knew when her father pulled strings and got her a position at the CAC that it was just a matter of time before she crossed paths with her nemesis.  She was able to convince the director to give her control of the Spring Show and with that control….the opportunity to torment Jodie Lerner.

“What are you doing here?  I’m here to talk to Sheila Devane.  We’re supposed to go over the student work for the show.”

“Then the person you will be talking with is me.  Sheila put me in charge of the details for the show.  Karma is a bite in the ass, isn’t it?”  Kelly didn’t hide her enjoyment at having the tables turned.

Jodie turns red in the face and hisses, “This show is about the kids, not me.  You’re not so spiteful that you would hurt these kids just to get even with me, are you?”

“Of course not, bitch.  These kids get to stay in the show.  How else do you think you’re going to get Bette to come to my gallery.”

“What makes you think that I can get Bette Porter to do anything?”

“She’s going to be Principal of Fairview High School.  The students of Fairview High School are getting a once in a lifetime chance to display their artwork in a professional setting.  Of course, she’ll be here as a representative of the school.  That part is a piece of cake for you.  What I need you for is to get Bette here without Little Miss Innocent.”

Kelly pauses.

“Otherwise all of Fairview is going to find out about your little ‘nose’ problem.”
