parenting: the teenage years part 7 ( sequel to girl episode)

Another day, another doctors appointment. I was tired of going to the doctor. I wanted it to be over already.

Just tell me already. Am I crazy or not? I thought as I sat outside Dr. Athens office.

They had me waiting in the receptionist area. Her and my moms were talking. Discussing me.

Call me in the office already, dont keep me in suspense anymore, I screamed in my head.

I closed my eyes dreaming up images of Lindsey. I missed her.

Call her, my inner voice said.
Like she would pick up the phone once she saw my number, I answered.

    Evan?

I opened my eyes to see Dr. Athens standing in the doorway.
    Join us.

I walked into her office to see my mothers whispering to each other. The quickly parted when they saw me.

Your mothers and I have been discussing what kind of treatment you should undergo, the doctor began taking a seat behind her desk, we all decided that the combination of discussion therapy and medication is what we will start with. I have already given them the prescription for paxil, which is an antidepressant that can boast your chemical levels. As youre taking the pills, your hormone
levels will continued to be monitored. If there is a change, I will keep you in the medication. If not, we will try something else. Okay?

What could I say but okay in return?

Good. I want to schedule your first session for next week. Have Valerie set one up for you, okay?

    Again, okay.

Thank you, Dr. Athens, Tina said shaking her hand.
No problem. I will see you next week, Evan.
    Yeah, I mumbled.
Thank you, doctor, my mother said.

The pills were making her lackadaisical. They took her spirit away. And I didnt like that. She walked around the house in a daze. Sometimes not responding to my voice or even my touch. I was worried. I wanted them to control her episodes not her entire personality.

I sat at the kitchen table watching her sit in front of the television. She wasnt paying it any attention. Or blinking for that matter. Her behavior was scaring me. She was becoming zombie-like.
That night I waited for Bette to come home to tell her that we should take Evan off the pills.

    1. I love that you posted this chapter in tandem with one from the other story (the prequel). It gives us a unique perspective on the issues facing them as they deal with Evan’s illness. It’s iteresting to see how they began, versus where they are now.
Thanks for posting and I look forward to reading succeeding chapters of both these stories!
