Part 8 – Heart of Glass

Part 8 – Heart of Glass

Shane lay across Bette’s California King in the master bedroom with her head resting on her hand elbows bent. She was dressed in her comfy hip hugging jeans, white t-shirt and converse high tops. The lanky brunette in her relaxed pose was taking in the mocha beauty seated across the room at her dressing table applying makeup.

Bette had asked Shane over for the company while she dressed but when Shane arrived and realized it was a special occasion she insisted on doing Bette’s hair. She styled the medium length naturally curly hair into a fashionably messy updo bun. The loose tendrils framed Bette’s face and fell softly on her neck. Shane also helped Bette to pick out the perfect jewelry to complement the look settling on a beautiful pair of 14k black gold tear drop earrings with black diamonds dangling within an eternity symbol of 14k white gold covered in white diamonds. Shane held the jewelry against the dress hanging on the closet door with the matching necklace the pieces were exquisite. Bette rarely dressed so extravagantly but tonight she was going all out.

Alice had helped her to find the perfect dress while they were out shopping at baby stores and registering for the shower gifts. In conversation Bette mentioned that she was attending Leigh Ostin’s artist dinner and exclusive showing of her new exhibit ‘Heart of Glass’ at Michael Cohanis’ studio and she had yet to find the right outfit.

Alice prided herself in being well-rounded culturally, but more importantly she knew something about most every socialite event in West Hollywood especially if the celebrity was gay. She’d heard about the show and even knew several of the people on the guest list. She didn’t know Leigh Ostin personally but she remembered Helena Peabody introducing her to a few years back when she, Dana and Tina happened to stop by the Planet while Helena was there on a date with Leigh.

Alice and Dana had questioned Tina if it bothered her that Helena was seeing other women while they were dating but at the time Tina didn’t really care. She was already moving away from Helena, making amends with Bette and preparing to have their baby.

    1. Great chapter,as always!! I guess I somehow got the answer to my previous question about Bette and Leigh getting romantically involved.I think it will be a great match.I can’t wait for the next chapter and read what you’re going to whip for us.Spice it up!! Thanks for the update.

    2. I’m curious about something. Are you going to disclose anything about Tina’s hook ups before and after Bette’s release from prison?
Can’t wait for Angie and Nicholas meet up and interactions.
So long untill the next chapter.

      • guiga – I alluded to Tina’s active sex life in a previous chapter after she broke up with Henry. I may give you a bit more in the next chapter so everyone can be satisfied that Tina isn’t suffering.

    3. I just love all the care and attention you show to detail in your stories. It makes for a very complete picture. I always liked the idea of Bette and Leigh together. I thought that physically the two actors made for a very compelling couple. I never liked Jodie and Bette together. IMO, Bette would not be attracted to Jodi b/c , not to be mean or shallow but, Jodi’s body build is not one that “looked good” or realistic w/Bette. To me, Jodi always looked a little dumpy on TV. Maybe that was IC’s reason for casting Marlee Matlin as Jodi. Someone out of type? Please post soon.

      • Hi cellphone48 – Have you read the story before? I’m not sure if I will repost it but I’ll think about it. It is my favorite Angie story. She is six years old and similar to this one it is very focused on the Bette/Angie mother/daughter relationship. The difference is Bette and Tina are best friends and they are successfully
co-parenting Angie. Even though they are not a ‘couple’ there is a lot of love and affection between them and it’s just a matter of time before they admit to being in love and start working their way back. Rest assured it is definitely TiBette even though there is some pain to get there. I never make it too easy :-)

    4. I have such a hard time visualizing these two together because the actress who played Leigh ended up on how I meet your mother. Great show but I have her character in my head.
Still a Tina and Bette fan would like to see them date. The dialogue could be fantastic with Nicholas entering the world.

      • kenji – I’ve never watched How I met your mother so didn’t know the actress was on it. I’m just giving Bette some options. She’s single and it was easier to have her date familiar characters (like Barbara and Leigh) that she had previous encounters with rather than introduce someone totally new or have her be with the ‘dreaded Jodi’ character. As I said in my authors notes this story is really about Bette as a parent to Angie and Nicolas and the familial relationship. I don’t even know at this point if she will have a partner in the end. She may just remain a single mother.

    5. It’s really heartwarming to still have the die-hard TiBetters holding out. Believe it or not I am a TiBetter and I love when Bette and Tina can work out their issues. My screen name BAT is an acronym for Bette Angie Tina or Bette And Tina. If there is any way for me to bring them back together ‘semi-realistically’ in my fanfic stories I will do it but I don’t make it easy.

They need to be deserving of each other’s love and I need the promise that they have what it takes to make it work. I am not getting that feeling in this story but be assured that I am sensitive to your feelings. There will be conversations but I don’t think it’s necessary to write details of their dates with other people or any explicit sex scenes. I don’t write gratuitous sex. It has to be an integral part of the story for me to include it..
      .
One of the things that I think may not have come across in the story is that Tina was with Henry for most of the time that Bette was in prison. She had also cut all ties with Alice, Kit and Shane. She only reunited with them when Angie got sick. It’s only been about a year since Bette donated the bone marrow. While Angie was sick neither Bette or Tina was thinking about sexual partners. Their only priority was Angie and they put everything aside to focus on getting her healthy.

The hard part of this scenario is that Tina told Bette that she would never see Angie again when she sent her to jail and she meant it. That is what she is struggling with because fate (Bette being the lifesaver for Angie) dealt her a hand that she wasn’t prepared for.

I know most everyone wants TiBette but their separation and the animosity between them wasn’t about Bette cheating or Tina having feelings for men. They had gotten beyond that. It was about Bette kidnaping her child and trying to take her out of the country with the intent that Tina and Henry would never have her.

That’s a major crime and the trust it takes to leave your child in someone else’s care after something like that is not easily forgiven. I’m not trying to make Tina out to be the bad guy in this story. I think she’s the good guy. Her fears are warranted and the fact that Bette is given a second chance by happenstance and not deliberately forgiven is very significant to me. Granted Bette went to jail and got her ‘punishment’ but that doesn’t mean that Tina should absolve her. In my opinion Tina is being selfless in making it about Angie allowing Bette to have access to their child even if it’s limited. What Bette did was traumatic for Tina and she hasn’t dealt or processed the affects yet. I don’t intent to get too deep into Tina’s mind and heart but as you read this story you might consider that my keeping them apart is for Tina’s protection; especially when you bring Nicolas into the equation.

Thank you for indulging me and for sticking with the story. It’s very much appreciated.

    6. Bette certainly seems to have developed a devil may care attitude in regards to her emotional entanglements. I’m not sure why, but the speedy sexual consummation with Barbara and now the almost seamless transition into, what I assume, will be a romantic coupling with Leigh kind of rubs me the wrong way. I suppose it’s because she’s pregnant? I understand that certain, ahem, needs tend to become more prominent during pregnancy, but I think I would question anyone in either Barbara’s or Leigh’s position that suddenly became interested in a pregnant woman as a potential partner. Not to say single, pregnant women don’t deserve love and release, it just reeks of Helena’s antics in Season 2 when everyone noted how she seemed to have a thing for pregnant women and by the way, I’m not excusing Tina… I found her indiscretions with Helena a bit distasteful as well. Perhaps, it’s just the characters. Personally, I never cared for Barbara and while I liked the idea of Leigh when she was introduced in the show, I suppose I just feel that ship has sailed. Anyhow, I hope Bette finds what it is she’s looking for and I just want to say you’re doing a fantastic job. Any time a piece of fiction can elicit such a strong response from the readers, you have done your job as an author.

      • colenickel thank you for sharing your thoughts. I agree the story has certainly elicited strong responses and varied opinions especially regarding Bette’s romantic entanglements. I suppose the main reason for that is because she’s not with Tina. In my experience when Bette is with anyone but Tina readers have a harder time accepting it than when Tina is with someone other than Bette. There is definitely a double standard but that is just my personal opinion.

If Bette comes off with a ‘devil may care’ attitude it wasn’t intentional. I wouldn’t equate what she has with Barbara with what Tina had with Helena. I think Helena was a pervert and the sex between them was beyond distasteful. Tina degraded herself whether she had needs or just wanted to get back at Bette for the affair or whatever her motivation was to hook up with Helena it was disgusting to watch. I would never put Bette in a similar abusive situation or with a woman that didn’t respect her.

Bette and Barbara wanted to have sex. Neither was looking for a ‘partner’. They simply have a mutual attraction and desire to be together and they acted on it. There was no hidden agenda. Bette being pregnant isn’t some kind of fetish like it was for Helena. It just happened to be the situation when they reunited.

As for Leigh they won’t know if the ship has sailed until they get reacquainted and the only way to do that is to spend time together. There is no indication that anything sexual has occurred between them but the attraction is still there.

It’s obvious if both Barbara and Leigh are not put off by the pregnancy that they are women of substance and character that Bette would want in her life beyond just the physical.

At this point I don’t even know if Bette should have a partner or if she’s just better off focusing on her children. We’ll see where it goes.
