“What do you want to do?”

“I’d like to work for a professional sports team or a college team or something.”

    “That sounds amazing.”

“I’m still young, I still have a lot of life to live,” I said and she smiled at how much emotion I put into that statement, which made me blush. She looked at me for a couple seconds, thoughts swirling around in that beautiful head. Her phone rang, she looked at it and ignored it and looked back at me.

“So Bette, Shane and Alice mentioned you being ‘hung up’ on someone and then you said you wanted someone you couldn’t have,” she asked, a knot tying in my stomach, “may I ask who it is?”

“I…uh…well, you probably could live without knowing,” I said, downing my wine.

    “Come on Bette, spill it.”

“Maybe another time,” I said as the waiter walked up.

“Ladies, can I talk you into one of our fine desserts,” he said and smiled.

“No thank you,” I said and Tina was clearly bothered by my vague response.

“I will take care of this whenever you’re ready,” he said setting the bill on the table to which I grabbed instantly.

“Bette no fair,” she exclaimed and pouted. I smiled, she is absolutely adorable.

“Get used to it,” I said and slipped my credit card in the booklet. Tina crossed her arms, still pouting and I laughed as my phone rang.

“Excuse me,” I said and answered, “hello?”

“Hey Bette, the girls and I are going to meet at Milk in a couple hours, you down,” Alice asked excitedly. Tina took her phone out and was texting, I turned away from the table.

“The girls? I only know you and Shane.”

“Well, Shane asked that cute red-head chef to go and that bucked up my courage to ask your boss and they both said yes. So in a way, you kind of have to come.”

“Alice,” I sighed, “I don’t know, I’m out with someone right now.”

“Does someone have a name,” Alice asked then gasped, “it isn’t Tina is it?”

“Not so loud,” I half whispered and mumbled, “and yes if you must know.”

“You are so bad! Didn’t we discuss this earlier?”

“You know what Al; I’ll give you the deets later.”

    “You can’t invite her.”

“Alice wants to know if we want to go clubbing tonight,” I said to Tina.

“No Bette, I said no! She’s married,” Alice exclaimed into my ear.

    “Sure, sounds like fun.”

“Ok Alice, we’ll see you later.”

“You are so dead Porter,” I heard as I hung the phone up.

“The thing about tonight is, we’re going to a gay club. I’ll understand if you don’t want to come.”

“I’m fine with it, as long as you’re there to protect me.”

“Of course, I won’t leave your side.”

“I just sent a text to Eric, told him we’re having an extra-long margarita night. He’s ok with it and said that he and the boys decided to go fishing for the weekend, so they’re on their way to my father-in-law’s cabin. That’s why he called earlier. So if I pour myself into bed in the wee morning hours, I won’t be in trouble,” she grinned.

“Trouble? That’s marriage I suppose,” I said and smiled, “we’re gonna have a lot of fun tonight.”
