    Pick A Part – 13

Tina stood beside Victoria Mayhew’s hospital bed, and studied the girl she had come to consider almost a daughter. Katie, having gotten impatient while waiting for Terry to wake from her nap, had gone with the good Dr. Petersen for a personal tour of the hospital.

Angelica had met Terry in third grade, and sharing a class project, and since then had been inseparable. Tina had to admit, she and Bette had been worried about Terry’s influence on their little girl, after all, with Terry’s parents constantly away, she had more freedom and independence than what Bette and Tina were willing to allow Angelica. Oddly enough, it had been Dana who had asked, in her vague but strangely logical inquiry, if maybe Terry was looking for parental figures in Bette and Tina. People who would actually put a leash on her. That with the way Bette and Tina kept watch on their daughter, by association they would also be looking after Terry.

In a way, she and Bette had acted as lighthouses for different people in their lives. Alice and her insane ways. Kit, back when she’d been an alcoholic. For Shane. Dana. Sometimes, too often, to each other. Guiding people back to shore, when all seemed lost.

Tina allowed herself the smallest of smiles, thinking of her wife and children, all resembling each other, even when Bette’s genes actually were not present. If she was ever going to be part of a nature vs. nurture debate, Bette, Angelica and Katie were going to be her proof to the side of nurture.

To think none of this could have been possible if all those wrong turns — and there had been plenty — had been dead ends.

But, hell, there were always U-turns, right?

"Mrs.KP," Terry greeted, her voice cutting into Tina’s introspection.

Tina looked up, and smiled at the girl. "Hi, Ter. How’re you feeling?"

"Like I’ve been hit by a tree," Terry smiled back at her. "Still here, huh?"

"Somebody has to," Tina returned, brushing back Terry’s jet-black hair from her face. "You had us going there, Victoria."

"I try," Terry grinned. "How’s Angie?"

"Better. The arm’s not as bad as we thought."

    1. wonderful, tina is such a great person…and that’s why i think in another story she and bette will be alright as well, because she mentioned it here…LOVE is the answer…thanks you

    2. Aaah, I see what you’re doing. At least I hope that’s what you’re doing. Is “Let me in” a prequel to this story? Would love that. Tina would find her way back to Bette “after the disaster of their relationship after Angelica was born”. This way, they would all be a family. I’d really like that. Thanks, tiff.

    3. i love this story and all the others–you and jwet have a real talent when it comes to writing love the way you can make me see and feel what are girls are going thro loved this insight into how both of them lost their way (s3 i can live with a temporary split maybe) to find their way back together looking forward to the next chapters of all your storys

    4. Someone hit my car tonight while I was at the gym and they didn’t leave a note. I’m hoping Terry’s dad will also pay for my damages. Excellent chapter!

    5. Tina is like the old Tina that we all love. I still have hope for S3. Dont ask why, Faith Terry is so lucky to have TheKennard=Porter in her life. thanks

    6. I don’t know what we have done to deserve such prolific writing from you tiff, but keep ’em coming. I love all of your stories and how you are able to make each B and T different yet remain true to their characters. IC should take lessons from you.

    7. things i adore about the chapter:- Mrs KP and PK!- “When did she come to realize that despite all the disappointments, she could always trust Bette? That no matter what, she could trust Bette to be there, to be there for her, even at her worst, and Bette would be there to make everything better. It was love. That deep, emotional bond between her and Bette, the one that extended to family and friends. In spite of all of this, love was deeper than a breach of trust.” YES!! s3 writers take note!

    8. TD,Read. Enjoyed. Commented. You certainly are keeping ’em coming thick and fast. I could certainly kiss you for all this delightful and dazzlingly dramatic dialogue. It is so realistic and natural. I love these versions of Bette and Tina. There is just so much love tempered by understanding and shared experience between them. They are an united front dealing with the highs and lows of parenthood. Many thanks for all of your creative juices and work ethic. Your Loyal Fan.

    9. “”Not to mention, how did we manage to keep Bette’s trust, after the disaster of their relationship after Angelica was born? “”–Shout out to Season 3 maybe? Lets hope the writers of S3/S4 decide to take the route most of us would love to see. Great chapter(s) and pls continue both. We need the good with the bad.

    10. do i have to say that i love that story??? i do very much…im glad Tina is doing a good job with Terry at least she have someone to look after her in that sad moment..great chappy post more soon thanks :o)

    11. It’s nice to know that your B & T used all the crap they waded through earlier in their existance was used as a proving ground that matured and deepened them. You’ve turned them into likable, admirable people.

    12. I agree with Bailey and really like Tina’s introspection during her conversation with Terry. Question: Was Bette a surrogate to Katie (Tina’s egg and Marcus’ sperm)? I’m slightly confused.
