Angelica looked up from her state of despair, and saw her mother enter the ICU area. She ran into her mother’s hug. "Thank God you’re here."

Tina wrapped her arms around her daughter, also thanking God that except for an arm wrapped in a cast and some bandages, Angelica seemed to be in one piece. "I’m here, baby. I’m here."

Angelica pulled herself closer into her mother’s embrace. "Mommy."

"Angel," Tina breathed a sigh of relief. "How’s Terry?"

Angelica sighed. "I don’t know, they wouldn’t tell me anything."

"Has anyone told you anything?"

"They were more willing to share information in the ER. Up here it’s all been ‘parents or legal guardian’ with people." Angelica clung on to her mother.

"Come on, let’s go ask." Tina said, moving in the direction of the nurses’ station, dragging a fifteen-year-old with her.

The nurse looked up as Tina approached. "May I help you?"

"Hi." Tina greeted. "Can you tell me anything about Victoria Mayhew’s condition? She was brought here from the ER, car accident."

The nurse glanced at Tina, then at Angelica, and back. "Authorized personnel only. Are you family?"

"Her parents are away on vacation, but I’m one of her ICE’s." Tina said.

"You sure?" The nurse asked.

Tina nodded. "Absolutely."

"Wait here." The nurse ordered.

"Do I have a choice," Tina muttered under her breath.

Angelica turned to her mother. "You’re one of Terry’s ICE’s?"

"Terry’s mom has a long list of ICE’s. I have to be there somewhere, right?" Tina returned.

"What’s an ICE?"

"In Case of Emergency." Tina looked at her daughter. "Why don’t you know this?"

"Because I can trust my mommy to be there all the time?" Angelica asked sweetly.

"I’m back to ‘mommy’?" Tina asked.

"So was MaBe mad? I turned my phone off after I sent her a message."

"We’re just glad you’re okay," Tina assured her. "And hopefully Terry is, too."

"Mommy," Angelica hugged her mother tigher.

Now Angelica was just amusing Tina. "You’re still grounded, you know."

"Mom!" Angelica protested, suddenly not as clingy as before.

Tina was beside herself in amusement. The minute she was grounded, Angelica forgot all about ‘Mommy’. "And MaBe promised to give you a lecture you’ll never forget."
