    Bette’s home

Bette had returned home from Barbara’s with many things to think about. She sat out on her pool deck and thought about her last day with Barbara.

They had sat in the wonderful living room that evening. Bette was going to have to leave the next day to attend the higher education art conference.

    “Bette?”

Bette turned and looked at Barbara who was leaning against the bar.

“This is another time that I need to be direct with you.”

The Senator took a drink, put the glass down and shoved her hands in her pockets.

    “I want to marry you.”

The Senator had missed Bette badly after that month Bette had spent with her. After Bette left, Barbara threw herself into her work and that was something she knew how to do very well. Being a U.S. Senator made it easy because there was really so much to do. You never got it all done and Barbara was vitally interested in many issues.

She had stayed in her house in New England for several days after Bette left, but was restless. She missed Bette whether she was eating, walking on the beach, driving into town and even reading.

The physical intimacy had been tremendous…the sex and just the touching and holding at other times. However, it was an intimacy that was more than physical.

She and Bette had read almost every day and both had disappeared in their book, or magazine or newspaper. But each had always shared something interesting when they ran across it. It was amazing how it made reading so much more fun when you realized that you could instantly share something interesting with someone who became as totally engaged in the idea as you.

Bette didn’t say anything after Barbara’s proposal as she tried to understand what she was feeling. Was she surprised? Did she expect it? Was she happy? Or was she sad? No, she was afraid and could feel it.

“I love you, Bette. Will you marry me?” Barbara repeated since Bette had not reacted.

“We don’t have to call it ‘marriage,’ or anything,” Barbara continued, “but I want a committed relationship with you.”

“I haven’t been with anyone since I met you,” continued the Senator.

    1. Very interesting chapter -I’m not surprized Bette isn’t ready but the withdrawl seems a little intense – I haven’t really felt like Bette wanted Tina back so the sadness of saying no to Barbara is confusing… maybe I’m feeling what Bette is feeling.

    2. Bette Porter, DO NOT let the senator go. She is a catch! …Poo on Tina! …Here I am, talking to fictional characters. I think I need to go take a swim. Pancha, you did not answer me – is Red going to be in this story? …Okay, surpise me. Thanks!

    3. Uh, oh. Bette’s getting cold feet? Afraid to be in a permanent/exclusive relationship? Please don’t let her go back to Tina. She can still be a Mom to Angelica and be with Barbara. She just can’t let Tina go. It seems as if Bette and Barbara complete and complement each other. The way you present Barbara, she seems to be totally and completely in love w/Bette. And she is not going to hook up w/a man like Tina did and might do again. Is Bette unsure if she loves Barbara in the same way? In two years when Barbara retires from the Senate they can live anywhere Bette wants. Your writing is outstanding that why your readers feel so deeply. PPS.

    4. Aw, man, I hope Bette doesn’t screw up a really good thing for the sake of a ghost from the past, and one that didn’t always play fair with her at that. I can understand Bette being somewhat reticent, but she should come to her senses. Tina’s put her through the grinder and played games. Barbara has always been decent and direct. Bette’s a big girl now and should have the guts and vision to let go of the dream that never was all it was cracked up to be. Let Tina be Angelica’s other parent, her ex.

    5. So Bette can’t YES to the senator huh? well its understandable, she just got over a heartbreak. I’m Soooo surprised that so many TiBetters are not rooting for a T&B reunion. I”m shocked actually. Bette’s not sure if her saying No is about Tina huh? and her conversation with Shane is telling me that Bette’s STILL not over Tina, well not completely atleast. B’s frontin’ acting like she don’t want it when she knows she does.I say unless you get Tina completely out of the picture, BETTE will always be confused no matter how hard she tries to hide. At least T&B are talking now for the sake of Angie. I can smell a brief encounter now.

    6. It’s understandable that Bette has reservations about the proposal. She came out of a relationship that she thought would be forever and looked what happen. Despite my liking of this pairing I still can’t see a long-term relationship out of this. Post soon!

    7. yay… my favorite story is back! i totally understand that it to soon for bette to make commitment again, but don’t let them break up… i think they could be really happy together… please, pretty please…. the senator is to good to miss.btw… what do you call this pairing?… Babette? betara? bebara?… sounds kinda weird…oh well..

    8. Let by gones be gone! Set Tina free in the wind and call of the senator! I understand that Bette would not want to commit so soon…come on now, let’s not call U-Haul quite yet, but I think she should explore and enjoy the senator’s company. I am also not sure how you got to bimonthly dinners when just recently, they couldn’t even look at each other…would you please expand on that part of your story. Love the story…looking forward to your next post.

    9. so Bette is mulling it over huh? why? she sounded so sure of her feelings. it is unlike Bette to at least give a reason as to why she can not say yes yet. I hope she doesn’t sabotage her chance of happiness with the woman who obviously adores her.Tina is a fucking idiot! ’nuff said!!

    10. I have this need to comment again. I think so many TiBetters love this story b/c the way you wite them as a couple. Bette and Tina are through and Bette really suffered. The Senator was very well received on the show and I for one still have those images in my mind. I was hoping that she would become a regular on TLW. In this story, Barbara is every bit a match for Bette and she is head over heels in love. On TLW, I want Bette and Tina to reunite b/c the Senator is no longer on the show and most likely will not return. I’ve always felt that B & T were soulmates and belong to gether but not in this story. LOL.

    11. I feel really bad for Barbara and I’m not really sure what’s going through Bette’s head. I just hope she realizes she loves Barbara before it’s to late

    12. I can understand Bette saying No to Barbara, it’s too soon for Bette to be even thinking of marriage. Even though we know very little of what Tina is up to, there is IMO still issues that still have to be resolved between B&T for them to move forward in there lifes, weather or not Tina wants Bette back in her life as her partner or just as a friend we really don’t know what Tina is feeling towards Bette, we are only guessing. Alice I think should really keep how she feels about Tina to herself. Is Tina still being passive-aggresive, using Angelica to get to Bette, IMO I would say no, I really don’t see Tina using Angelica this way at all, sorry just my opinion. I don’t think Bette has said anything negative towards Tina at all in this story, I really hope that we get a Tina and Bette chapter with them talking about the downfall of their relationship, maybe things will become a lot clearer them, my wish for them is just to be happy and in a committed relationship.

    13. Please do not let Bette lose Barbara. They are Great together. I do not want to see her back with Tina. Tina is still wants to keep a hold on Bette and that is so wrong. I so love this story. Thank you PPS

    14. While reading this chapter, I had the overwhelming urge to throw water at my monitor; good thing I didn’t have any at the ready. As much as I despise the union of Bette and Tina, I don’t think I despise them enough to throw anything at a $1000. monitor. I want to understand where Bette is coming from; I really do – but I CANT; as a matter of fact, I don’t want too. I think its way past time for Bette to let go of Casper. Your story has bought Bette and Barbara close to each other in ways that Tina never did. PPS!!

    15. Whoa Alice – that was a little harsh! Like others – I am torn. I love the senator and think they would make a formidable pairing, but I am a hopeless Tibette case. Unless Barbara was prepared to relocate to the west coast, I don’t think Bette would give up her times with Angelika just to be with Barbara.

    16. Ok my turn…I really realy really want Tina and Bette to be that ultimately triumphant love story!!! and altho u portray Bette and Barbara as compatible, I’ve never felt that Bette was in-love with Barbara…of course you may take it there because you’re the writer…

    17. and Alice should shut up because should Bette and Tina reunite or even become close friends as some exs do once the dust has settled, Alice may regret or be embarrassed by what she’s said…imo its always best to butt out of other peoples relationships, only they really know the true nature of the relationship…there are things lovers only share with each other…which may explain Bette’s reluctance to go along with Alice’s comments…no matter how Bette and Tina hurt each other over 3 seasons, there wasthe previous 7 years of in-love and loving that they shared and Alice knows only the surface stuff…okay that’s my rave…

    18. This is great! Hmm…indeed, you have so many baseline TiBetters rooting for BarBette–how did you pull that off? By writing a compelling and brilliant story. The girls don’t trust Tina; I’m reluctant, too. I also think it’s too soon for Bette to jump into another committed relationship, especially if she still has feelings, though undefined, for Tina. I just want to see where you’re going to take this–have a feeling it won’t be on an expected route! Thanks, and pps!

    19. Bette isn’t ready for a new committed relationship and the Senator has to give her some time, I don’t agree with her about being so sure that Bette will still say no to her after a few months, she’ll come around…

    20. You know, I”m actually sad Bette said no. I can understand it’s a huge step, so quickly, but don’t lose her. She’s really really good for Bette!!!!

    21. Oh come on . . I just saw the entire third season. DO NOT let the relationship between Bette and the senator end. They are so good for one another. I love the way you make them interact. Tina on the other hand I don´t need to read about. Yes there´s Angelica and a lot of history, but Tina made some very selfish choices in a rather cruel manner. Let her live with those choices. We need Bette happy again. PLEASE! God I hated third season. Oh sorry, truly great story.

    22. No No NO Bette can’t do this, she will come to her senses, she has to! What she has with the Senator is soul fulfilling, and she is never going to get it from Tina..Please Bette, don’t be stupid here!!!

    23. although i love b/t i just want bette to be happy and see the fab JB smile – if IC continues to portray TK as a bitch then this is the greatest way forward. Ic’s TK is not the TK that i like = oh and this is a wonderful story and i love it !!!

    24. Great post….but I don’t like the harsh comments about Tina, even if they’re true. Bette really has stuff to think about with Barbara :o)) Post soon please….
