    Posthumous Wisdom Finale

Alice turned the engine off and looked up at Bette’s house.  Her mind was filled with memories of times she had come here in a different era, back when her biggest worries concerned which club to hit at the weekend, a time when Dana was simply her best-friend, a time before she understood just how unfair life could be.

“Ok then Dane, let’s do this, I don’t know how much more of this I can handle, It’s killing me just reading your letters and I have the support of having all of our friends around me, I have no idea how your wrote them all alone.”

Alice was startled out of her one-way conversation by the sound of Bette’s front-door opening.  On the other side of it stood Bette, with a wriggling Angie in her arms.  Alice got out of her car and went towards the small child who was squealing “Ummer  Ummer” delighted at the sight of the visitor coming towards the house.

Bolstered by the child’s energy Alice felt a new found strength and made her way to greet them both.  Pausing to kiss Bette briefly on the cheek and hug her tightly, she proceeded to scoop Angelica from her mother’s arms and made her way inside.  They had barely made it through the door before she felt a small finger poke her shoulder eager for her attention.

    “Yes Eddy?”

Alice responded drawing her head back so she could eye-ball the little girl.  Looking behind Alice questioningly Angelica raised both palms upwards in a questioning manner and asked “Dana?”

This unexpected declaration from the toddler almost landed Angie on the floor as Alice whipped her head around to look questioningly at Bette not understanding what exactly her earth-daughter was asking.

“God Alice, I’m really sorry” exclaimed Bette.

“I’ve been trying to explain to her why everyone is coming around tonight.  I was trying to talk to her abut Dana,” Bette continued gesturing at the coffee table which Alice now noticed was strewn with pictures of various members of the gang over the previous decade.

We got as far as the part that Aunty Dana was Ummer’s special friend and then you arrived…

“What?” Bette challenged surprised to see her oldest friend standing looking at her and smirking

I especially love how you handled Alice through the whole thing. She went through so many emotions in even this one chapter and you handled it perfectly. Once again, Dana’s words were spot on. I am glad all the gang decided to honor her wish. Marvelous job. Just marvelous. I hope we have not heard the last of you as a fan fiction author. Thank you!!
