    Provocations Linger- Chapter 17

"So, Tina, where’s my date?" Tessa asked as the producer rejoined them on the balcony.
Tina offered a strained smile, nodding her head a few times as she glanced between Tessa and Sam.
"About that… Interestingly enough, your date already had her own escort when I arrived up there."

Tessa got an odd look on her face, as if she’d just remembered she’d left her stove on.
“Oh… well,” she shrugged dismissing the subject. “You guys ready to hit it? I don’t want to miss the reception. The concierge told me it’s being held on the roof deck and that the views are spectacular.”

Sam set her empty glass on the bar. “Sure. How about you gorgeous?” She gave Tina’s dress another serious once over. “You look ready,” she winked.
Tina chuckled, taking Sam’s arm. She was tempted to let the topic of Helena’s date go but knew it would only be more awkward when Bette and Helena arrived.

“Aren’t either of you at all curious about who her date is?”  Tina prodded looking at Sam.

“Not really,” Sam admitted. “Why, do we know her?”
Almost as soon as she asked the question she knew the answer. Tina’s odd behavior since returning from Helena’s made perfect sense if she was right.

“Please tell me you’re joking?” She gave Tina a long look.

“I’m sorry Sam, no joke. Bette was already there when I knocked. Believe me I was as surprised as you are,” the blonde assured her. She hoped she didn’t look as guilty as she felt.

“Tessa. Did you know about this?” Sam accused sharply.

Tessa looked at her oldest friend surprised. She could count on one hand the amount of times Sam had raised her voice at her. Glancing at Tina, she looked down before raising her eyes to meet Sam’s.

“Bette told me last night,” she admitted.

“That’s nice. Thanks for the warning.” Sam muttered. “I’ll see you guys at the reception.” Without waiting for a response, she let herself out.

    Tessa looked at Tina helplessly.

“Oh crap. I’m so sorry Tina; it didn’t occur to me Sam would need a warning. I was more concerned you might think there was something going on between Bette and I,” the blonde admitted.

    1. Sam is such a weeny. Bette forget your make believe phone call and get your ass back to the event and start working on getting Tina back. MUST WE DO EVERYTHING FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! Great update. PPS

    2. I agree with brwnsuga – at least partially. I mean, Tina did ask for a bit of discretion – she is there with Sam but Bette does neet to catch Tina’s eye everyonce in a while. She shouldn’t stay away completely.

    3. You’re killing me here Zuzu – Sam and Tina jukebox dancing at a dive bar sounds just so awesome and fun. Sam sounds like a cool person and she and Tina seem to have such fun together :-) You quoted the right song in your A/N, haha! The Helena Tessa silent convo was hilarious – so was Bette and Helena talking about Doogie Howser. Great chapter PPS!

    4. It seems to me that Sam has a choice to make here. Tina has all but told her that she loves Sam but is not in love with her and will not commit to her. Sam should know that if she decides to stay with Tina under those circumstances then if she is hurt it is largely due to her own decision. Tina is definitely interested in Bette, so Bette needs to keep the pressure on. Magnificent Zuzu…need more please as soon as possible.

    5. This is wonderful. I think Bette should have stayed at the reception to get Tina’s eye every now and then but, I also think she has put more pressure on Tina not being there because she will be watching for Bette’s return, which Sam won’t like at all. Sam knows she does not and can not have Tina’s heart, it belongs to Bette and always shall. No one else measures up and no one can fill that void left by the gorgeous brunette and the same for Bette with Tina. Bette is trying to honor what Tina asked of her to let her be with Sam this evening and they will talk later. We know what that talk will be and what will probably happen, they can not keep their hands off one another. Sam has probably run her course with Tina and should just bid her adieu. I think Helena and Tessa are funny beyond words, and Helena is never speechless, always the ladykiller. Can hardly wait for the next chapter to see what happens. Thanks for posting this awesome chapter.

    6. I love this story. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the party unfolds. I feel kind of bad for Sam, but oh well. I don’t like Helena and Tessa… I don’t like sharing Helena :p Great update as usual!

    7. it seems to me that Sam is acting very much like a martyr….for gods sakes tina told same she was not in love with her and was not ready to commit, Sam sees the real deal…..tina is only feeling sorry for her…..so…Sammy walk and Tina you walk right to Bette to much time has been waisted already

    8. You know, since both Bette and Tina live on the left coast, they could just belay their meet and greet and hook up when they get back to L.A. But, where’s the drama in that? Love the intrigue (and the extended pages)! Thanks!

    9. Am I the only one wondering where Bette will sit during dinner? I’m thinking that Helena will want to dine with Tessa which leaves Bette sitting with Sam and Tina. Here’s hoping that’s what happens and of course, Bette WILL cater to every need Tina has because she knows her so well! :)

    10. Tina’s being kind to Sam, which is good of her, but I think this is going to end in tears, at least for Sam and her hopes of bi-coastal exclusivity. And I can’t believe Sam didn’t notice Tina’s smudged lipstick, but Tessa did. On a brighter note, Helena and Tessa seem to be dumbstruck… but “okay”. Those two are going to be fun, I can tell. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the evening unfolds. Thanks, Zuzu. :)

    11. tina, why are you still with sam? there’s no spark between you, you live thousands of miles apart, bette and you are so obviously still in love and bette was being forthright with her intentions re you. i love you tina, but poor sam, please break her heart now rather than later. ugh. must we get carried away? okay, it just hit me that this story has been happening for only a few days as yet, not counting the backstory. so okay, maybe in the next two installments we may expect the breakup? not at all demanding, no?thanks zuzu for this story. please post soon.

    12. Just caught up in this wonderful story. It’s been a joy to read. Love the extended characters and love this Helena. Can’t wait to see what else you have in store for these women.
