    Chapter 5

     

    “James I need you in here.” Bette stands at her office door and barks.

    It’s been one of those days where Bette’s agile mind and nimble sense of creativity has kept her one step in front of any bombs thrown her way.  But the battles have taken their toll.  Her suit jacket is slung over the back of one of the chairs that sit around the little conference table in her office right where Bette had tossed it.  It has been there the better part of the afternoon.  Bette’s neat hair bun that looked so perfect this morning now shows the signs of coming unraveled.  If Tina were near the look would be hot but with no Tina and only work it just gave Bette a worn out look.  With so much uncertainty left up in the air about future shows Bette didn’t feel there was any way she could leave.  No she needed to nail down something more concrete.  Feeling this way she knew it may be awhile more before Tina gets to see her tonight.

    “Yes Boss what do you need?” James asks having barely entered Bette’s office.

    He found Bette pacing back and forth in front of her office window.   She looks to be deep in thought, a scowl crossing her face.  Having seen Bette like this often in the past few weeks, James knew better then to interrupt her process.  It was always best for her to come back to him at her own time and in this case it only took a minute. 

    “Oh yes James, I need you to pull everything you have on Peggy Peabody and the Peabody Foundation.  I know I had you start a file six months ago and it looks like I’ll be need it right now.  If you haven’t already done so Google the foundation and put together anything of any importance you can find out.” Bette instructs.

    “Importance?  Like what?” James asks.

    “I don’t know James, if I knew I could tell you.  Anything you know.  Who did they give funding too?  What type of exhibits seem to be selected more than others?  Is there anything that stands out as unique or different about their selections? After that give me the whole run down on Peggy Peabody.  I want to know everything there is to know about her.  What her favorite color is, how much is she worth,  how involved she is in making decisions on where the art is exhibited.  I want to know everything right down to her underwear size.  Do you have it?” Bette asks.  By now she is back behind her desk ready to begin again.  Looking at James to see if he understood.

    4. Reading about Bette’s stress at work gets my heart racing..you describe it so well.I hope either Kimmie or Kate will talk Tina into working again. She needs to have her career. She can’t be putting all her self worth and identity in her relationship with Bette and becoming a mother. It’s a recipe for disaster.

    7. None of them are happy. Why can’t Tina go back to work and also start talking to Bette about how she is feeling what she really? They need to communicate properly and share their feeling?
