    Redemption – Chapter 64 part 6

Tasha was very excited about what she and Jamie had accomplished in this arena working with several Veterans through the LA Gay and Lesbian Center military focused programs. They were now talking to Tina about getting more involvement on the east coast. Tina, Bette, Cole and Greg would also be attending the event that evening to meet some of the key leaders in their community; both military and civilian.

The three couples were seated at a table with Captain Beech, his wife Gloria and another officer who was an old friend of Beech’s. They’d met in boot camp when they were both wet behind the ears and their friendship spanned over 15 years. Even though they’d taken different paths they’d both climbed the ranks and had very satisfying military careers. Beech, the more studious of the two became a lawyer while his best buddy Jackson joined to see action in the trenches. Over the years Jackson was deployed all over the world which wasn’t conducive to having a steady romantic relationship so he never married.

Beech had spoken very highly of his friend, but he’d warned Tasha that Jackson was one who was opposed to repealing the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy. Although he was toeing the line as commanded he hadn’t fully bought into the concept of no discrimination against gays in the military. Beech was hoping that Jackson’s presence at the event that evening, and meeting Tasha Williams would play a major factor in bringing him around to a more progressive way of thinking.

The dinner was preceded by a cocktail reception, followed by the honors. Jackson and his date Madeline arrived just before everyone was asked to be seated. He hadn’t expected such a massive crowd but thankfully Beech spotted the tall tow haired man as he entered the room and waved him over to their table. Jackson and Madeline made their way quickly through the large dining room but he made an abrupt stop just before reaching their destination.

Madeline tried to urge him on since they were already running late, and only a few people were left standing but Jackson appeared as if he’d seen a ghost. He couldn’t take his eyes from the blonde woman sitting next to the beautiful pregnant brunette. Tina had just lifted her gaze to scan the room when their eyes met and locked in shocked recognition.

She was the spitting image of their deceased mother Priscilla, he of their absent father Steven. After a few moments Jack was finally propelled into motion suddenly conscious that he was causing a scene. His embarrassment was evident when the color returned to his face, but his smile unmistakably that of a Kennard lit up his eyes.

Tina stood and moved away from the table to give access to her older brother as he brought her into an all-encompassing bear hug. His tears wetting the side of her face mingled with her own.

      • cellphone48 – thank you for always commenting. Has it stopped raining where you are? Glad to hear you had a day off, sounds like your work schedule is grueling sometimes. Take care of yourself.

    1. WHEW!! Thought for sure HELENA was coming home in a casket but by your grace and mercy she didn’t.ALICE on the other hand needs to realize that TINA means what she said about not putting herself or BETTE in the clutches of HELENA again,no matter if she is friends with her.ALICE can’t keep her mouth shut, her girlfriend, her nose out of other people business so i’m wondering can she keep time? This dinner is going to be an eyeopener for JACKSON,another homophobe TINA/BETTE will have to deal with, brother or not.thanks

      • dunnthat Tina has her priorities straight so neither Alice or Jack or anyone else will ever come between her and Bette’s relationship. Remember this is the redemption phase of the story and homophobic Jack will need to decide what he values most. I think Tina has had enough heartbreak. Not to give away too much but rest assured he is going to bring joy not grief to their lives.

    2. Still here BAT :-)

Thanks for ”redeeming’ Helena just a little and also for the wonderful Grandmothers in the background. Big part of family life Grans are you know :-) Perhaps your wonderful imagination could find an eccentric Great Gran somewhere in the world for the Epilogue !!!

Still loving this story and look forward each day to your posts. Even forgiven this little cliff hanger.

      • SassyGran so wonderful to hear from you. Thank you for sticking with me. I’m working on ideas for the epilogue so I may be able to come up with a Great Gran. PM me if you have some suggestions. I could use the help. :-)

    3. Every time i wake up, i look at my phone if there is a notification that you have posted a update. And yes, there is always one. Sadly i can’t always read them straightaway, i work early and night shifts and at the moment early shifts, so i have to wait for a break or after my shift, but good God, i am gonna miss the almost daily updates from you!

Their family is expanding again, can’t imagine that Jack will turn his sister down.

Good talk between Tina and Alice, Tina made it very clear that nothing will become between her and Bette, hope that Alice see the light and is gonna making efforts to rekindle her friendship with Bette and the rest.

      Thanks for the update!

      • BIbi28 – thank you for being so loyal. I know lives get busy so I appreciate whenever you have time to read and comment. I think Jack will be a nice addition to the family. I’d love for Tina to reconnect with her estranged sister and dad too; maybe even a Great Gran for the kids … more to come.

    4. Alice went away with a lot. In the story, I think she really pushed her luck. How Peggy looks after her daughter has nothing to do with her. I know she loves Helena but she cannot say she loves her more than her own mother. So Alice can pack it in already.

I think Alice should go to therapy too :-).

Now Champ that is not a good place to finish the chapter, that was mean :-).
I look forward to see what happen between Tina and her brother. Maybe this will make him more tolerant toward gay military personnels
