Reprisal Reprised- Chapter 18 (Part 2)

    “Bette?” said Tina.

They’d finished dinner and were now sitting in the living room, enjoying the rest of the bottle of red wine.

Conversation over dinner had been kept to their friends and different events happening in the world, the heaviness of before not re-visited since then.

“Hmmm?” responded Bette, watching her wine as she swirled it around her glass.

“This might be totally inappropriate” she started, watching Bette closely to gauge her reaction, “but, can I ask you about the woman that you are seeing?”

Without looking up from her glass, she said evenly, “What is it that you’d like to know?”

“Well” said Tina, “everything.  I mean, how did you meet?  What is she like?  How serious are you about her?”

Finally looking up, Bette said, “You really think that it’s appropriate for us to be discussing Lee?”

“Bette” she said.  “I’m not looking for intimate details of your relationship, just some basic background material.”

“I thought that we were here to discuss the two of us” she said, returning her gaze to her glass of wine.

“We are, but this pertains to the two of us as well.”

“How does Lee pertain to you, Tina?  You’ve never even met her” she pointed out, slight irritation entering her voice.

“Bette” said Tina, careful to keep the emotion out of her voice, “she’s the woman that you’re dating and for that reason alone, has a lot to do with me.”

“Oh, so let me get this straight” said Bette, reaching forward to place her glass of wine on the table in front of them.  “So, now that you’re back in town, something happening in my life now affects yours?”

Recognizing the slippery slope that she was on here, Tina tried to reign this conversation back in.

“That’s not what I said Bette, but the truth of the matter is that whatever is happening in your life impacts mine, and not just because I’m living in LA.  That’s always been the case, nothing new there” she pointed out.

“You’ll have to forgive me if I find that a bit hard to swallow” said Bette.

“Do you think that just because we weren’t together these past months that you were not constantly on my mind?  That I wasn’t constantly worrying about how you were doing, what you were doing?” she asked incredulously.

    1. skip, just saw your post, I have to tell you for this story, I start with the last page first. It is so hard to read, It is like watching a movie, and It keeps me so on edge. I love your writing

    2. please make me underestand too..i never thought love could bring so much pain like this..Bette is like a child lost in the woods waitng for help..i hope Tina will be able to bring her back and together they will find their way again…amazing simply amazing chapter..thanks :o)

    3. Wow, seems to be the answer. I feel so bad right now, for both of them. I hope Tina has the answers. I can understand leaving someone while you still care because things are happening that you fear will destroy what you have if you don’t go, but the person deserves to know. I swear these two love each other like we can all only hope for, and seem to have the damnest time letting each other know. Looking forward to the continuation.

    4. oh, shit. that was heavy. i’m glad that they were able to “break the ice” and truly start to work out their relationship. i’m with pandora – make me understand too. i kinda get tina’s reason but not really.

    5. Yeah Skip is really good heh? Hmmm suddenly that root canal is looking pretty damn good right about now. At th end of this story I can already feel Bette pulling away. The next chapter is going to be a bitch.

    6. I don’t think that I’ve ever commented on one of your stories b4, but I have always read them and throughly enjoyed them. 2day however is different. DAMN THIS WAS EXPLOSIVELY EMOTIONAL (is that even correct grammar….LOL, who gives a hoot, it’s how I feel). ONE QUESTION AND I SURE HOPE YOU’D ANSWER…..Y OH Y OH Y DO U TAKE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO LONG TO POST??????? IT WOULD REALLY BE A GREAT XMAS IF WE OR RATHER I CAN GET A CHAPTER (on this story) FROM U EVERY DAY UNTIL XMAS!!!!!

    7. work, no work but i had to read it…this is really intense, and sometimes it does seem hard to understand tina’s actions, so i hope she will explain it to bette and make it simple and they can move on together after that…the love is still there

    8. Skip, that was awesome! It’s amazing to me how well you capture the emotion and anguish that these two women are feeling. You have such a way with words. Can’t wait for the next chapter! Please don’t keep us waiting long.

    9. As I have said many times before I love love your stories. As somebody says, it is like watching a movie, you are so in the room feeling there pain or joy but mostly love. Merry christmas Skip, would love a present from you another chapter, which I may add will be the best present I will recieve. xx

    10. Wow is right! You’ve blown me away with the powerful emotions coming from the girls. It really did feel like I was there watching the scene unfold before my eyes. Thanks, Skip.

    11. god! i can’t believe that i’ve neglected reading FF for so long! Damn, Skip! You are so good at this and I’m kicking myself for not keeping up! I’m going to have to go back now and catch up. Thank you so much for plugging away at this incredible story!

    12. god! i can’t believe that i’ve neglected reading FF for so long! Damn, Skip! You are so good at this and I’m kicking myself for not keeping up! I’m going to have to go back now and catch up. Thank you so much for plugging away at this incredible story!

    13. Wow, Skip, you are amazing. I just love where you are going with this story. Please don’t let Tina let go of Bette…it’s that intimate contact that is going to help them find each other again.

    14. skip – I am in awe – this was such an amazing conversation with both characters taking such a risk to try to talk despite Bette’s defensive stance she’s there to heal if she can. Why oh why don’t you write for IC – your dialogue is so real – TPTB need you badly. thanks for this story with the twist of Tina leaving Bette – I love it.

    15. Finally! Some answers are now given as to why she’d take off in the middle of the night. Though, I have to say that Bette is kinda thick for not thinking the affair would not have killed Tina in every sense. I can see Tina’s rationalization through all of this though…I hope to see our ladies together once again. Communication is the ultimate key.

    16. Tina sure lapsed back into the ‘babies’ mighty quick. If I was Bette, I would have brought her up short. Bette is still vulnerable to her. NOT GOOD. I can’t help feeling Tina is feeding Bette a line of hooey and setting her up for – what round would it be this time, two or three? Convince me, Skipton, convince me that Tina is worth the time and effort. I remain a stone where she is concerned. And not soapstone either!

    17. All caught up & attempting to still my racing heart. The dialog between B&T is so realistic and poignant. Seems like Tina is prepared to forge ahead and ‘make Bette understand’. I’m pulling for her. (Did I just say that?) Wonderful Skip. Just wonderful…

    18. Wow…awesome chapter. The truth hurts but it will set you free. Wanting to know the truth and being able to hear and accept it are two totally different things. Let hope Bette can handle it.

    19. Well, they’re finally getting down to business and there’s no turning back. I love your realistic dialogue as barriers to their relationship are slowly peeled away. Please post more frequently and I love your writing.

    20. It is really hard to find someone who writes long term relationship issues as well as you do. This was top shelf stuff. Being a recent Tina convert, I feel her pain and feel Bette wanting to understand and forgive her, just not knowing how. I hope you grace us with another chapter before Christmas. But, if that isn’t possible, I hope you and your lovely wife have a very Merry Christmas.

    21. This story defies words. Why do I usually have to search for it though? It does not come up on the day-to-day with the other Bette/Tina posts. Oh well, if I need to go on a hunt, this story is a worthy treasure in the end :-) I too would love another story before Christmas :-)

    22. There is such a fine line between love and hate. Sometimes you just want to hate your lover and other times you just want to hold on with everything that you have. Have a Merry Christmas and am looking forward to the next chapter.
