    Resolutions- Chapter 7

Alice seemed to recognize the impact of her words as well and immediately fell silent.

Papi, oblivious to the underlying tension, nudged Shane.  “So, Stud-Puffin, any of the other Puffins catch your fancy?”

Shane threw her hand up in mock defeat, “Not going there this week, Papi.”

“Oh come on, Shane.  A friendly wager?  How about that cute redhead over there?”  She nodded towards a woman a couple of tables over wearing a red name tag.  “She’s hot.”

Shane simply gave a low chuckle and shook her head.

Lara blinked in confusion.  It certainly seemed as though Alice’s girlfriend was ogling other women blatantly in front of Alice.  Lara felt a ripple of anger stir, but quelled the urge to act on it.  Easy, Lara, she chided herself, you don’t know anything about their relationship.

She pushed her chair back and stood.  “Well, I guess I’d better start helping with the breakfast clean-up.  You Puffins have fun!”  With a smile directed at Alice she headed back to the kitchen.

    *-*-*-*-*

Forty-five minutes later, Lara stepped out of the dining hall and into the cool spring air.  It was a nice morning, so she decided to walk the long way back to her cabin.  She had a two hour break before needing to get back in time for the lunch time rush.  Oh, who am I kidding? She thought as she neared the athletic field.  She was going out of her way in the hopes of catching a glimpse of Alice, who no doubt, would be gearing up for the morning activity with the rest of the group.  Indeed, she could pick out the familiar figure amongst the rest, as they concentrated on Jonathan’s instructions.  As Lara neared the group she could hear Jonathan’s summation.

“….before you can really let yourself embrace the summer camp experience, you have to release the world you came from.  One of the ways that people are successful in doing that is to be really physical with someone else.  Throw all your worries, stresses and anxieties onto that other person and then just let go.”  Jonathan smiled briefly.  “Of course, that would probably wind up in a slugfest of injurious proportions…so instead, we’ve opted to make the process a bit…softer.”  Glancing over his shoulder to the equipment shed, he called out, “Gina, Barry come on out!”

Two giant spherical blobs waddled out of the shed.  A smattering of laughs erupted as the Puffins realized the blobs were actually two counselors clad in sumo wrestling costumes.  As they watched, the two bounced into one another, tottered over and began to roll on the ground in a comical battle.

Jonathan stepped in, separating the wrestlers, “Alright, enough of the pre-game entertainment.  Time for everyone to suit up and square off.  So, pick a partner that you want to toss all your pre-camp baggage on and come on over to the shed to pick up your sumo-suit.”

Bette’s voice rung out sweetly, “Oh, Jenny!”

Jenny, looking terrified, latched onto Shane.  “Sorry, Bette, I’ve already got a partner.”

Papi, with a determined gleam headed towards the redhead she’d pointed out at breakfast, as Alice turned to survey her partnering prospects.  Her eyes met Lara and she froze for the briefest of seconds, before she called out.  “Yo, Perkins.  I pick you!”

    1. Awwright, update! Wait, who are you and how do you know my name? haha, just kidding. Good to read from you again! I happened to check here tonight and you happened to have posted so basically, we rule. Naw, all the other commenters/readers do too, I like reading what everyone has to say about this sweet fic. Aw, three weeks? Dang! But thanks for the heads-up, and I hope work is the good kind of busy. OK, love the chappy. Particularly the pronomial ambiguity we find in the last sentences. Does the possessive ‘her’ as in ‘her eyes’ index Papi or Alice? Is the ‘she’ as in ‘she froze’ a cohesive tie to dear Alice, or to that sneaky Papi? Now, the lexical item ‘yo’ leans towards Papi but…I don’t know for sure and I LOVE it. just thought I’d geek out and ask, because it makes for quite the cliff-hanger. Your grits inclusion was well-researched, too. Of course Lara would know all that;) And I can’t get over how clever the setting of adult summer camp is, seeing as how we are in the throes of fun-in-the-sun season. Looking forward to seeing how Lace misunderstandings continue to churn up the tension. Keep up the delicious-ocity and see you next post!

    2. Hey Gold! Sorry I’m so late reading this chapter, but I just had to post to say I loved it as usual. Alice’s bleary-eyed, cranky wake up was hilarious… I could picture her doing exactly that on the show (I’m loving the Shane-Alice interactions in this story, by the way – you’ve really captured their chemistry). I’m excited to see what happens with the sumo wrestling in the next chapter – anything that involves full body contact (setting aside the layers of foam in the sumo costumes, of course!) between Lara and Alice is definitely ok in my books. :) And, I too enjoyed the grits research – I now have a strange desire to try some! Anyway, thanks for another great update!

    3. Well I guess its true, th more you wait the better it gets. Loved the update but wish you would update more often. I miss Lara terribly so I love your story. Oh and can Sandy just go away please? ^_^

    4. Despite Alex saying they used bird species to group the campers, I *still* read that as “Powerpuff” at first. I guess Alice’s hairdo could classify her as Bubbles… Right, anyway. Sumo wrestling! That is gonna be a hoot. I hope they don’t get too serious (although, I’d *love* to see Bette wallop Jenny). And after that, Al and Lara have a whole week, right? That’s plenty of time. The three weeks between chapters is gonna seem like forever, though. Ah well, I’ll be waiting. Brilliant as usual, Gold. Thanks for the post.

    5. And by “soon” I’m holding you to three weeks. “At least three weeks” isn’t much help – Anything more and I’m going to have major withdrawal issues. But, that’s for another time. Tight now it’s hours later, and this chapter, ‘filler’ as you may call it to be, is still a great read.

    6. I can’t explain how happy I was to see this update. I absolutely looooove this story, you’re doing an excellent job. Can’t wait for the next installment.

    7. hey!! i read this chapter a copple of dasy before, but there was no time, to leave a comment till now. i really enjoyed this chapter. the end is a perfect cliffhanger and make me wish that i could read moore at this moment. so i hope the next two weeks will pass fast ;-)hug, naren
