Tina: “I’m just not okay with it. It’s just that simple.”

Bette: “I thought we got through this?”

Tina: “We would have been except you went from blatantly flirting with her right into introducing her as your business partner.”

Bette: “You know Tina, just like you, I’m not going to spend the rest of my life on probation.

    Tina: Just like…why would I…?

Bette: Do you really want to go there T?

Tina: We were not together when I…”

Bette: You always did hate to take out the garbage.

    Tina: (bewildered) What?

Bette: I may have cheated first, but I would have never brought her here. No matter how lost I was, I would have never brought her into our bedroom…fucked her on the bed we shared for eight years.

    Tina: Oh God…how did you…?

Bette: You left the remnants of your soirée in the bedroom garbage basket. I believe there were three used condoms and the empty wrappers they came in.

    Bette: Impressive

    Tina: Bette…I…

Bette: It’s okay Tina. I forgave you a long time ago, and I have moved forward from that time. I brought it up however to show you that we have both made horrendous mistakes which required the other’s forgiveness.

Tina: I am so sorry Bette.

Bette: Would you ever do that again?

    Tina: Never! (vehemently)

Bette: And I promised you I would never cheat on you again.

Tina: “You did…I just wish you would have talked to me about it first, that’s all.”

Bette: “I would have, I just didn’t even know that I was going to propose it.”

Tina: “It’s a huge decision, you getting back in the gallery business.”

Bette: “I know, but it’s what I have always loved the most.”

Tina: “I know it is baby, but it’s just really scary right now, with the house under construction, and my job isn’t exactly secure.”

Bette: “That’s why this comes at such a great time. She’s going to make me a partner.”

Tina: You sound like it’s already a done deal.

Bette: I’m hoping it is. This is a business and a familial decision Tina. It’s a way for me to do what I love. It will provide us a substantial income, so if something happens with your job we can still pay our bills, and it allows me to spend the time with Angie I promised I would when we originally started talking about creating our family.

I believe this fits perfectly for me and for us, but if you think there is some ulterior motive then I suggest you come up with a better solution, and then I suggest we get ourselves back into therapy.

Tina: You’re right. I just worry that we are going to fall back into being the non commutative people we were at the end.

Bette: (Hesitating) You are right Tina. I should have talked with you about it first, and I won’t make any final decision until we have had a chance to go through the details together. You’re wrong about us though. We’re at the beginning of our life together, not the end. And our advantage is we have experienced each other at our absolute worst, yet after all the damage we inflicted, we learned from it…forgave and let go of it…and here we are, still unyielding in our love, unwavering in our devotion to each other. Right?

    Tina: (Tearfully) Yes

    Bette: Come here…

    The End

    1. Thank you for that, Seahurst. For some reason I think TLW writers were just not capable of/willing to flesh out the bare bones of these interactions. Your version here seems much closer to how I imagined it than the aired conversation – how could such a massive topic have been skipped through in a few sentences? Were we to assume they worked through it off camera? Also – thank you for addressing the Tina/Henry in the bedroom issue. I have always thought that Tina’s decision to fuck H in T&B’s bed was far worse than the cheating itself. Everyone can have times when cheating turns from a thought to reality, but to do it in your & your partner’s home, bedroom, bed? I don’t care what arguments there are to the contrary, I saw that as an active choice by Tina to impart an unbelievable act of betrayal and hurt on Bette, and it was at that point that I knew the relationship was over – at least for a couple of seasons :).

    2. thanks for expanding on that scene. I thought that in S5, IC had B & T really communicating w/each other. They had developed conversations but here in S6, in that particular scene they went back to their old selves having conversations like this one with tacit implications and meaning. For instance when Bette said to Tina to come up w/a better idea, Tina had no response and Bette didn’t elaborate either. Also when Bette said that she wasn’t going to be on probation her whole life or rest of her life, Tin a immediately said that she was sorry. It would have been great to hear a few lines about their mutual transgressions. Feel free to write some more. In fact, please rewrite S6 the proper way, w/o all the bullshit drama of Jenny’s demise.

    3. Awww… the satisfaction of a healthy discussion! You done good! There are a number of missed opportunities (well, one BIG one anyway) for B & T to communicate before real problems arise… are you inspired to address those too? *wink*

    4. Hmmm, they never had sex on the bed did they? It was the door, and from what I remember the guest bedroom, not the master bedroom. In any case I understand your point. :-) Not thrilled with S6 either.

    5. Banana, you may be right. I don’t know for sure because season three is the only season I have refused to buy the DVD for. However, I think it was the master bedroom, because as far as I know they only have a two bedroom home, and Angie and Henry’s son were, I assume, napping in her room where her bed is. As for the door, as you know, IC didn’t have them using condoms at all, so the bed, and my ‘three condoms’ was me merely taking advantage of the fiction part of fan fiction. Plus, I believe that whether Tina let Henry fuck her up against the door, in the bed, or both, it was a huge betrayal to do that in the home she shared with Bette. IMO Thanks!

    6. I just lost my comment on cyberspace and I’m on my third glass of wine so bear with me on my second attempt. I hope I make sense *croosing fingers.* It always amazes me how Bette’s mistake is always brought up while that of Tina’s is blown away into oblivion. Just like in 601 when Bette made her promise on the car. I thought Tina could have done the same thing. just because her indescretion was done while they ‘were not together’ does not make it any more wrong or less painful on Bette’s part. Thanks for this better version.

    7. Yeah, that bit with Henry in the family home always struck me as particularly low and mysteriously glossed over in the anxiety to assign all blame to Bette. I suspect what began at the door soon moved to the bed, just based on physics and despite IC not showing it. When did that woman ever feel the need to actually finish a thought or draw anything to a conclusion (even at the conclusion)? Never the less, I shall miss it, although I have no intention of obsessing. We’ll always have Paris. Long Live Fan Fic.

    8. Thanks for writing to complete the scene Seahurst, really appreciate it. If not mistaken and memory serves, they had sex against the master bedroom door and hopefully Tina did not let it get to the bed, that part was not shown. I have all the seasons on dvd and will purchase this one as well and as bad as it was I still want to have a copy of all of them for the future. No matter what comes after, now how well or badly done, L Word was first and NO ONE will ever replace Bette and Tina nor will they ever be better than “Our Girls.” Thanks again. You may continue with a total re-write of S6 if you have the time or inclination. Don’t know what IC and her writing staff were thinking by not wrappin up the series with a “clean” season. Because what they did was give us at least 15 new story lines with no ending in sight nor explanations for any of them, which was just stupid I thought. It was as though they inteded to do this season in that manner and just leave us hanging. Maybe another letter writing, and petition should be offered up to the execs at showtime for another season or at least a movie then maybe some answers could be forthcoming.

    9. Would’ve been great for T to also say, “for the record the first two condoms were because H was so anxious that we were gonna have sex he ripped them opening the packaging and when he did finally get it right, it was over so fast I wasn’t even close to being on the verge of having an orgasm.” Or something to that effect ;)

    10. Thank you so much for that improved version of the scene, Seahurst! Your scene is rather short, so you prove it was totally possible to write something significant without needing for B&T to have more screentime that what they actually have. But I guess Season6 is all about missed opportunities :( I’ll miss the show anyway.Hope you’re gonna give us readers more rewritten scene from this season. I so enjoy your writing!

    11. see…we could take our talented fanfic writers and let them rewrite the seasons…then we would have our perfect DVD collection. : ) Thanks Seahurst…rewrite the entire season for us.
