Shane held the phone, waiting patiently for it to ring.
Standing beside her, Bette was anything but patient.
“Tina?”
Shane gave a smile and nod to Bette confirming that she was, indeed, at home. “Do you have plans or anything?”
With that, Bette began to pace the room, waiting, as she could hear what Shane was saying, but wasn’t sure of Tina’s responses that came in the pauses in between.
“Yeah, I can understand the housework thing.” Shane nodded a few times. “But, it’s a nice day out, I was thinking of heading out, grabbing some take out. I thought I could maybe stop by and see how little A’s doing.”
“Uh huh. Yeah, just me. Paige is busy with some stuff.”
“Yeah, yeah, that works. Okay. I’ll see you in a bit.”
With that, Shane snapped the phone shut. “We’re set.”
“Do you think she suspects anything?” Bette bit at her bottom lip as she asked, trying to keep the nervousness from her voice.
“Bette, if I called up and said I was bringing you lunch, would you suspect something.”
“Okay, so she suspects.” Bette began to pace again. “But will she suspect it’s me?” Asked aloud, ignoring the obviousness of that question.
“If she does, even better. It means she’s okay with you doing something.”
“I suppose you’re right,” Bette agreed. “And your friends are all ready to go?”
“Are you kidding?” Shane smiled. “They rarely get offers this good that don’t end up being something sleazy.”
“She’ll like this, right?”
“She’ll like this.”
“Okay, then. I’ll go grab the food and meet you at Tina’s in about thirty minutes.” Bette put a hand on Shane’s shoulder. “Thanks for the help here.”
Shane responded with a nod. “See you there.”

Why am I picturing Shane’s friends as a mariachi band outside the window? Perhaps I need more sleep.

Hey Pseud, Good to have a new post from you but it is way, way, way too short. Things were just etting started when it ended. Now I really can’t wait to see where it leads. Will this be the beginning of a softening of hearts and melding of minds. I do hope so. Yes, there is a lot to work through but hard work never kill anyone. The rewards and spoils will be so worth the effort. Loving you easy style. These chapters just flow along like the Amason; strong and steady. Thank you for this short afternoon delight. What a tease. Something planned… but what? At first I was thinking something odd because of the sleazy comment. But maybe it is a day to pamper Tina since Shane knows people from salon’s.. or something. Can’t wait to see whatever it is.
