Oh there is a murderess amongst us
Her love is a violent spiral
Hurling in upon us, conjured up
At the birth of the world

    Ch 18

The diner is empty except for Carmen and the waitress.

Fast in conversation about the murders up in Mexico, Carmen asks if they have any leads. The waitress says no, she adds smiles despite the dark nature of the conversation, and the news said it was a professional hit according to Mavis the waitress. She also mentions that they where looking for two women in their late 20’s for questioning. The waitress doesn’t even skip a beat when I sit at the table with Carmen. She finds nothing suspicions at all with the very women they are looking for, nothing suspicions for the very women she just mentioned herself. She offers me coffee and wants to take my order. I get what Carmen is having. And the waitress smiles and goes about her work. I shake my head and marvel how trusting people are sometimes.

When I walked out of the room and felt the cold air hit me I felt much better. I checked us out of the room and proceeded on to this diner. Carmen seemed relieved to see me. And I still felt sleepy. She takes my hand in hers and the gesture is so sweet it makes my knees weak. She looks very worried about me. I guess she should be. I am the only thing keeping her alive. I don’t know. This is so beyond me right now. I take my hand away from hers not wanting to draw attention to us.

Carmen looks around at the empty diner and gives me a look.

    “What?”

    “Nothing Shane. Nothing.”

    “What did you get?”

“Blueberry waffles and some orange juice.”

    “Wow……..”

    “What?”

“That is my favorite thing to eat for breakfast.”

    ‘Get out of here.”

“No really…..that is so odd. Hey did you see a cigarette machine around?”

“Shane you know smoking is bad for you.”

“I know. I just don’t care and I need one bad.”

    1. OMG I love your writing. It’s breathtaking. “Yes I do work out to get this body Carmen.” That made me laugh! Totally Shane. And Alice is crazy too. I love how you’ve magnified each person in intensity and still keep the basics we’re so familiar with. I’m very happy with this Sunday fix. PPS! I’d like to see a movie with this plot with the girls. But nothing beats text. 8D

    2. I agree with TMAJO that this would make a great movie. I also thought that about your last saga…never mind a movie trilogy you’ve got an 8-part movie series of The Line Begins to Blur through Missing!! Anywho, Shane seems to remember her past at least in terms of the nun and her training so if she did have her memory erased during ‘the becoming’ what did they erase? Oh it’s so intense!!!!
