(Next Day. The Daily Planet. Peggy was in her office reading over Bette’s resignation; she couldn’t believe that Bette had left without say a proper goodbye. There is a knock on the door)

Peggy: Come in

(Peggy places Bette’s letter down on her desk, removes her glasses and straightens up before Alice, Mark, Carmen, Max, Helena and Shane enter her office, Alice and Shane appear to have been crying)

Max: You wanted to see us

Peggy: Yes I’m not sure how to break this to you all

Helena: What is it mummy?

(Peggy closes her eyes and shakes her head. Shane catches a glimpse of the letter on Peggy’s desk. She recognizes Bette’s handwriting)

Shane: It’s about Bette isn’t it? What’s happened Peggy?

(Peggy nods her head and swallows the lump that had formed in her throat)

Peggy: Bette’s gone

(Everyone stands in a silent shock. Alice and Shane can feel the tears beginning to gather)

Mark: Gone? What do you mean gone?

Peggy: This is her letter of resignation; she also sent me a personal letter explaining why she’s leaving Metropolis the primary reason being Tina

Shane: She’s left us

Peggy: She claims that she no longer has a life here anymore and that if she stays she’ll never let go of her past or her pain of being alone

Alice: She isn’t alone!

Peggy: She feels she is and has no choice be to leave and let go of anything that ever meant anything to her in order to start afresh

Alice: Bullshit!

Shane: Al…

Alice: No we can’t let her do this, if she leaves we’ll never hear from her again is that what all of you want? Is it?

Helena: Of course not but she needs this Alice; she needs time to get her life back together and getting away from everyone and everywhere that she sees as a reminder to her old life is the only way

Alice: I’ve already lost one friend I’m not gonna lose another

Shane: Stop being so selfish Al we all lost a friend when Tina was killed

Max: Helena’s right Bette needs time to heal and she’s not gonna when she’s surrounded by memories that are killing her
