Some kind of wonderful

Chapter 47

“This has just been a really great weekend “ Tina said as she loaded her rucksack and bag containing her hiking boots in the back of the hire car. Bette put a box in carefully and added her own rucksack and boots.
“Its been wonderful “ Bette agreed taking hold of Tina’s hand “Thank you “
Tina smiled – the se had been amazing -but then it usually was. What had made the weekend really special had been Bette’s revelation. She now knew what Bette had been keeping a secret and it hadn’t destroyed them. It would have had to have been a truly terrible revelation for it to damage their relationship and while Tina had been shocked she had understood what had happened.  She lent forward and kissed Bette on the lips
“Its okay – thank you for trusting me – I know it wasn’t easy”
Bette shook her head “I was scared “
“Well it just shows that there is nothing to fear but fear itself as Roosevelt said “
“”Talking of fear “ Bette said
“Yes ?”
Bette removed the car keys from her jacket and threw then at the blonde
“You want to drive ?”
“Hell yes “
“We will hand the keys into the lodge and then we can be on our way. Its nearly 11:50 – we should be on the road by noon  – plenty of time to get back to New York”
“And I can drive all the way ?”
“If you want to “
“Thanks”
“I am feeling lazy “ Bette replied grinning and to end the debate she climbed into the passenger seat and leant back. Tina grinned and making sure the trunk of the car was secure she got into the drivers seat and took a deep breath as she looked at the dashboard of the car – she really was going to drive this really nice set of wheels.

In ten minutes Tina was on the road leaving the resort behind. Beside her Bette was fiddling on with the sat nav and not looking at her or the road. Tina was glad that Bette seemed unworried by her driving – she had feared that Bette would be a terrible   passenger to drive with but she seemed unconcerned and hadn’t made any comment when Tina had stalled the car twice as they had pulled away from the main lodge after returning the keys. After a few minutes Bette put the sat nav in front of Tina so she could see it  – there were a few turns to make before they reached the main highway.
“Have you thought that you are going to need some wheels if you are going to open the coffee shop – you will need trips to the cash and carry warehouse “
Tina shook her head
“That hadn’t occurred to me “
“Though you could go with your dad – he will be shopping at fish markets and places like that but there is no reason you cannot tag along with him”
Tina nodded “ We need to sit and make a list”
“I will help you if you want me to but lets make an agreement that you do tell me if I am sticking my nose in when you don’t want me to. This is your baby not mine – I know how angry you got with me when we were decorating your apartment “
“Not my finest hour “ Tina said still watching the road rather than Bette
