Somebody – Chapter 4

Bette hoisted herself out of the pool and removed the swimming cap and goggles from her head. She walked over the double lounge chair and removed the waterproof ear buds from her ears and her iPod shuffle from the small compartment on the swimming cap. Swimming had always cleared her head and lately she had been doing a lot of swimming. She needed to get the mysterious blonde whom she had been dreaming about from her head.

Hearing a noise on the other side of the fence, Bette called out, “Shane?” Bette picked up her towel and walked over to the security fence that surrounded her yard.

Shane opened the gated and joined Bette in the yard. “Hey, Bette. Just finished swimming?” The lanky brunette had noticed her next door neighbor doing a lot of swimming the last few days.

“Yeah… it helps me clear my mind,” Bette admitted.

“Anything you want to talk about?”

“Thanks for being there for me with the whole Jodi thing,” Bette said as she dried her hair with the towel.

“Hey, now sweat. That’s what friends do.”

“Are you hungry? I have some leftover Korean from last night that I can warm up.”

Shane gave Bette a smirk. “I actually had Korean a few nights ago.”

Bette eyed her friend and laughed at the double entendre. “I bet you did…so hungry?”

“Famished,” Shane followed Bette to the kitchen.

“Come on. Let me warm the food and change real quick.”

Shane cleared the table and placed the empty plates in the sink. She sat back down at the table and took a swig of her beer. “So, what’s up Bette? I haven’t seen you at any of the brunches.”
