Bette snorted “Yeah – and it will be me “

Tina picked up a stone and threw it out into the sea
“Do you have any doubts ?” she asked Bette
Bette shook her head “No – what about you ?”
“I know this is something that you don’t have to believe – -but no – I don’t have many doubts about how I feel “
“I just wondered if your doubts the other night where because you thought that maybe you weren’t sure that you were gay “
“I am not using you as an experiment – I promise you “
“I didn’t say that “
“I guess you and other women who are as out as you must get sick of women who just think that they might be – or that they don’t know if they can come out “
“Normally I can spot them “
“But your radar went astray last Friday “
“No it didn’t – I focused in on the sexiest woman in the club who is also clever and funny – I think I did very well “

Bette looked at Tina “Don’t worry about what I thought – all that matters is that we are together now “
Tina exhaled “I do want to sleep with you but “
“Tina – don’t worry about the physical side of things. It will happen when its right for both of us “

“You aren’t – we are getting to know each other. “
Bette stopped and looked at Tina – she took hold of both of her hands
“We go at your pace. I am tired of a different woman every week. I’m 29 and I want more from my life than the Liquid Bimbo of the week. I have known you a week and what I know about you I like – I want us to get to know each other. The more we find out – the better friends we become – the more at ease you will feel about slowly becoming more physical. I am not going to treat you like a fool – I am sorry about earlier – it was me being an ass. “
“I over-reacted “
“We both did – it’s the sort of misunderstandings that are inevitable. And if I buy you dinner – I don’t expect payment in kind “
“Neither do I “
Bette laughed “Just because I am easy doesn’t mean I am easy “
Tina chuckled – she looked down at Bette’s hands holding hers
“That feels nice “
“It does “
Bette turned Tina’s hand over and looked at the two hands. Somehow it looked so right. She looked up at Tina – she couldn’t read Tina’s mood through her trendy sunglasses – Bette could only go on her own mood. No woman had been so special that Bette would even consider waiting as long as it took. No single woman had been important enough to eclipse the lure of all the lesbians who threw themselves at her every time she went out. That was something that she was going to have to learn – how to say no. Only this blonde with the interesting past had started to seep into Bette’s heart. Bette Porter had a feeling of butterflies in her stomach when she looked at the blonde – she didn’t know what it meant – just that she liked the sensation.

Hey Ally, Can you see I’m jumping up and down with the excitement of more chapters from you. I am just loving this romantic and gentle tale. The dialogue between Bette and Tina was awesoem. Honesty poured from Bette as she tried to show Tina the real Bette Porter. These glimpses into Bette’s psyche are so telling. I’m not sure if Tina really appreciates this now. Hey Ally, sweeet update… I had to laugh at Bette’s full name, I’ve only seen that on your neck of the woods. Almost everyone on my other side of the family have 3 or 4 names and I love it! ;)
