Soul Harvest: Chapter 22
Tina arrived in D.C. and looked around the airport for a familiar face. Someone came from behind and put their hands over Tinas eyes.
Guess who?
Im hoping its Addie cuz if its not Im in trouble. Tina turned around, laughing and grabbed Addie into a huge hug.
Oh my god! I cant believe youre here!
Me either! This is so crazy. Hope youre ready for me.
Anytime, Tina.
They went to the baggage claim and found Tinas small suitcase. Heading towards the cab, Tina started to shiver.
Cold? Adison looked at Tina and laughed.
Holy *****, Addie. I think Im going to die in this weather.
Not everyone is graced with LA weather. I hope you packed some winter clothes in that suitcase because in the middle of December, youre gonna need it.
Or maybe Ill just borrow some of your clothes.
Adison wrapped an arm around Tina, pulling her close to keep her warm. They reached the taxi and headed towards Adisons dorm.
Wow, Im glad I dont live in D.C.
Whys that? Because I never go out alone at night? Or I dont have a car so I can barely get around? Or I need to have groceries delivered to my door? Really, the list goes on.
Tina flopped down on the couch, pulling her feet up, head on a pillow. You live like right in the center. At least in LA I dont live downtown.
I still dont know why you flew all the way here from California. We havent kept in touch in a long time and I get a call out of the blue with you asking me if I want company…today.
I was desperate. I needed to get away and you were the farthest. Besides, I knew I could get work done here.
Adison sat on the couch, playing with Tinas hair. Where did the time go?
Tina sighed and closed her eyes, falling asleep immediately. When she woke, it was the afternoon and she found a note from Adison on her suitcase. She wouldnt be back until evening and Tina had the rest of the afternoon to herself.
After showering and dressing, Tina pulled out her laptop and started to work on her thesis. She didnt stop until Adison walked in the door with take out food and a movie.
Whats for dinner? Tina looked up from her computer.
Take out thai. I havent forgotten your favorite food. And… I have a movie to go with it.
Do I even need to ask what it is? Let me guess… Dirty Dancing?
What else? Well, I couldve brought The Sound of Music, but I wasnt in the mood for a sing along. She laughed as they both reflected on old college days with watching Julie Andrews sing and dance as they imitated her all over the dorm together.
Theres no woman quite like Julie Andrews. Tina laughed.
I agree.
As they ate and watched the movie, they commented on the film, not really interested in watching it, but in talking with each other. When it ended, they both were on the floor, snuggled close to each other under a blanket.
Im really glad youre here Tina, but Im not sure what to think.
What do you mean?
You havent talked to me in over a year then you f lew out on an impulse to get work done? Whats going on?
Tina sighed and rested her head in Addies lap.
Tina, whats going on? Adison repeated herself, slowly.
*****, Addie, I have so much work to do. If I dont finish that thesis, I dont graduate and Im out of a job.
And… She started running her fingers through Tinas hair.
Sometimes we all need to take a break from reality before the world crushes us.
True, but I dont think Ive ever heard of you stepping away from a problem. Is it Eric?
Tina laughed, frustrated and irritated and said, No, its definitely not Eric. We broke up not long ago.
Im sorry. I didnt know.
Its ok, no big thing. It shouldve happened long ago.
Not even sad. I should be taking notes. Maybe I could study them and come to a conclusion as to what the ***** is going on with you. She looked down at Tina, concern in her green eyes. Are you seeing someone else? She asked quietly.
Yes. Tina whispered.
Who is it?
Youll never guess.
Is it a woman?
Both of their voices were soft, full of confession and honest truth.
What if I said yes? Tina closed her eyes.
I wouldnt be surprised.
Sitting up and facing Adison, Tina was taken aback. No?
No. Tina, you have that… way about you.
What way? Like Im a big *****? What?
Adison laughed and took Tinas hands in hers, both sitting cross legged facing each other. No, I dont think youre a big ***** and you dont look like a big ***** either. You dont scream anything of the sort, but you are a very confidant woman. You dont let people tear you down, you dont let men influence you, you dont give them even a glance when they look at you the way they do.
What way?
See! You dont see it. Men drool over you and you never seem interested. You dont even notice.
Well you and I are alike then because I could say the same about you. Tinas defenses were high, unsure of herself.
Touche, Tina. We are talking about you, not me.
Just then the phone rang. Adison got up and answered it. Walking back into the room, she looked at Tina wrapped up in a blanket sitting on the floor with a confused and innocent look on her face that almost broke Adisons heart. She handed the phone to Tina.
The phones for you… its a girl!
