    Soul Mates – Chapter 3

Bette saw the love swirling in Tina’s eyes and could only bring herself to nod slowly. She had waited five years to see that look in those hazels again. Fresh tears had formed and began rolling down Tina’s cheeks as she shifted a bit closer.

"I’m so sorry Bette . ." She whispered, still holding Bette’s face in her hands.

"God, I’m so sorry. I should’ve . ." Her head jerked forward slightly and Bette looked at her with confusion "I should’ve . . " Her head did the same jerking motion only this time it was more forceful, like a gag. Oh crap.

Tina’s eyes widened as she quickly turned to the passenger’s side window just in time to throw up outside of the truck and thankfully not all over Bette. The brunette made a face as Tina heaved and coughed over the window before shifting over to hold her face and rub her back.

A little while after, the sickness had calmed down and Tina fell asleep there in the passenger’s seat. Bette watched her sleep for a little bit, replaying all that had happened between them in the last few hours. Before Tina’s breakfast lunch and dinner was spilled onto the floor, she had apologized. Bette couldn’t get over how sincere it sounded, how full of hope she had become upon hearing those words. She knew there was a lot to face ahead of them but deep down, she felt they could do it if they do it together.

Tina shifted around for better comfort and Bette finally decided it was time to take her inside, they could talk more in the morning. She felt another ray of hope at the possibility of fixing things between them. Just as she leaned over to help Tina out of the truck, she saw something sparkle on the floor. She leaned down to pick it up, her jaw clenching when she realized it was Tina’s engagement ring. Bette looked at the ring and couldn’t help but admire how beautiful it was, not to mention how expensive it must have been. Helena really was disgustingly rich after all.

She looked at Tina then back to the ring, the hope she felt inside herself was quickly diminishing. What would Tina want with someone like her when Helena could give her the world and more on a silver platter? With all the money she had, Helena could probably take care of Tina better than Bette ever could. In the end, that’s all the brunette ever wanted. For Tina to be properly cared for and loved, even if Bette herself wasn’t in the picture, that’s all that mattered. Tina’s happiness.

Bette carefully scooped Tina out of the truck and carried her to the door, praying that she had the strength make it back to her truck. Its always hard not to look back.

Tina awoke to a massive headache. She felt like someone had hit her over the head with a sledgehammer, maybe even more than one sledgehammer. Sickness churned in her stomach and she didn’t dare move to provoke it or even to worsen the headache. Instead she slowly opened her eyes, blinking back the tears that formed due to their sensitivity to the bright sunlight.

Her vision was a little blurred but she noticed something resting on the pillow beside her. Not even daring to lift her head, Tina stretched out her arm and and felt her fingertips touch cool paper. She brought the papers to her face, blinking to let her eyes adjust to the small font and felt that churn in her stomach worsen when she realized what she was holding.

The long paper was covered in small typed up font and at the bottom had two lines that were intended for signature, only one of the lines were blank. There, neatly signed in that perfect cursive she always had was Bette’s signature. Tina stared in disbelief as she traced her fingers over the signature, a single tear running down her face. She finally had what she wanted for so many years but now . . she wasn’t so sure if she even wanted it anymore.

    Comments

    1. When I read this story last night there were no comments, yet. Now that I’m back to comment, there’s nothing left that hasn’t been said. But what I was going to say last night was: “I’ll just wait here, because I’m sure you intend to fix this any minute, now.” ;-)

    2. I mentioned in my last comment that by luck I was able to “rent” Sweet Home Alabama from the library. But like dessert, I’m saving it for last to watch. Great portrayal of Kelly – I just realized how strange it is that generally speaking most everyone who watched TLW are such anti-fans of Kelly and Jodi, when the actresses who portrayed them are good friends with JB. Funny…anyway, thx again for yet another post & the fact that you make them SO long – I LOVE that :D Anxiously awaiting your next post & still can’t wait for the reveal on B’s success!

    3. Loving this so much Liah!!!! Brilliant B&T take on that movie. I was dying reading Kelly’s part, another brilliant take on that, making her a stripper. I can’t wait for more. Thanks Liah😘
