    Springtime in New York

Tina looked at her watch and out the window and decided that she would leave early and walk through the park on her way home.  It was one of those deliciously early days of spring where you could tell a change of season was in the air.  Office workers on their lunch breaks lined 6th Avenue, eating food from delis and carts, chatting with co-workers, checking out those of interest who passed by, and planning where to go for happy hour.  Tina on the other hand was anxious to see the baby leaves on the trees, take in the newly green grass, and tucked away from the car fumes of Manhattan traffic, smell that spring was indeed in the air and not just the exchange of pheromones.  There was also display of sculpture that was being sponsored by Peggy Peabody who along with her daughter Helena owned Shaolin Studios.  Tina had missed the opening reception and she wanted to see the exhibit and send Peggy a note of congratulations.

When Tina first moved to New York from L.A. over five years ago, it was during a very difficult time of her life.  After finding out that her partner of seven years, Bette, had cheated on her, Tina was devastated, and decided she could no longer stay in L.A.  Bette’s apologies had paled in comparison to Tina’s hurt and she realized that her life had become so enmeshed with Bette’s that she no longer had her own identity and that needed to change.  When Tina arrived in New York, she desperately needed someplace to live and steady work – she was pregnant and scared, but determined to support herself and her child.  A friend from college, Rebekah, was a godsend – providing her a couch to sleep on, an interview at the production company where she worked that led to a job, and a hand to hold and shoulder to cry on when Tina miscarried and lost the baby.

Tina found a modest apartment and worked hard developing movies that mostly garnered critical acclaim and earned a reasonable profit. When Shaolin Studios bought the production company Tina and Rebekah worked for the change ended up making Tina’s life a lot easier.  Helena, instinctively liked and trusted Tina.  She found herself with a lot more responsibility and a bigger budget than she ever dreamed possible. Shaolin East became the flagship art house division of the studio and 2nd rate office space was no longer acceptable.  Their office was relocated to 57th St. and had views of Central Park.  When Tina was promoted her salary increased enough to enable her to buy an apartment on the Upper West Side.  Tina liked running in Central Park and her apartment had lots of light and it was an easy commute to the office.

    1. OMG! You’ve got to continue soon. Please, post again really soon! I went against my rule to never read a new story until it has a few chapters posted already. I read this post, because of your description. I couldn’t wait for another few more posts to see how it was going to start out. Now, I am beyond anxious for the next chapter! Great start!

    4. Great start! I’ve become conditioned to Angelica being a part of Tina’s life (more from other fanfic than from the show). This setup presents an interesting alternative reality. I’m looking forward to where this goes! Thanks!

    6. Remember when they had all those Boteros up and down Park Ave.? I had to chuckle at Mrs. Miller’s liberal attitude toward the possibility of her daughter going both gay and goy (Oy!) for Helena, but hey, a catch is a catch! You’re making me miss NYC. Can’t wait to hear the conversation.
