Starting Over (17)
Chapter 17
Bette and Tina walked into Bette’s office, walked over to the couch and collapsed and let out a collective sigh. It was just past seven on Wednesday night and they had just finished the last item on their very long list of details, rechecking the lighting for every piece in the show. The Gallery looked unbelievable and everything was in place and ready.
They sat in silence for a moment. Bette looked over at Tina and smiled.
“Tina, I cannot believe we did it. We are really done! The doors don’t open for 47 hours and we are done. Do you know that I have not had Thanksgiving dinner in 5 years? I have always worked right though without giving it a thought. I really can’t thank you enough for all your hard work.”
“Bette these past few weeks have been such a gift. Being part of this, all this, has been like a dream. I can’t thank you enough for giving me the chance to work with you, to learn from you…It’s just all so…UNFUCKING BELIEVABLE.” Tina finished and giggled.
Bette looked at Tina with wide eyes and a mischievous smile, “Nice adjective Kennard.”
Tina laughed, “Oh, leave me alone. You know you leave me speechless.”
“Nice recovery. You know you really should leave.”
“I told you I am not leaving until you do.”
“But isn’t your daughter coming home?”
“Yes, yes she is, but she and I have talked and she clearly understands that I am going to be very busy this weekend. She’s really happy that I have this job and she is my biggest supporter. Don’t worry about Ellie. Besides, Joe is picking her up from the airport and taking her to dinner so she won’t even miss me for hours.”
“She sounds pretty understanding for a teenager.”
“She is pretty mature for her age, and she and I are really solid. We talk every day, sometimes twice a day. She and Joe could use some time together any way.”
“Speaking of the hubby, um…what does he say about you working all the time, especially since he just got home?”
“Not too much. As a matter of fact, we haven’t seen each other much. He’s going to take Ellie to Seattle to see her High School friends right after they come to the opening Friday night.”

Getting better as time goes on. Post again soon.
Yes, it does just get better and better. I just love this sweet story. They are so good together. I half expected Tina to tell Bette that Joe could just go to hell for all she cared and that she stayed there at work with Bette because she did not want to leave her, that she’d rather be there than at home. Great job. Thanks for posting so quickly.
Really loving this! You have to post again today this one was way too short!
Phew, that was so soothing after the intense last chapter. Your writing is wonderful, so flavorful, rich, sweet, light but sometimes intense.
Damn you James!
Awesome. Would love to hear Bettes point of view while Tina is gathering her courage. Thanks for a great story, gives me something to look forward to everyday.
The tickle fight was a nice, really fun “antidote” to the situation with Joe. Why is he coming to the opening, though? Ellie, I can understand, but why him? Is it just for the sake of keeping up appearances? Is there going to be a “lightbulb moment” for Joe? And will it matter after the show’s opening weekend at the gallery? Can’t wait to find out. Great chapter, D&A, thanks for the post! :)
“What kind of person insists on staying after their boss tells them they should go home?” The kind of person who is in live with her boss :) Great chapter.
I really love Jams but dammit! Bette should buy him one of these phone cases you can attach to your belt, they only look good on men anyway :)
That was so adorable! When is Bette going to realize that Tina is interested in more than friendship with her? She is dropping hints all over the place. Maybe the fact that she’s married is keeping Bette from doing anything but I’d love to know what she’s thinking.
I’m kinda surprised Tina hasn’t gone for it. She told Joe she was going to aaaaaaaaaaaaaages ago. Come on, Tina, make us proud, LOL!
I love this story! Look forward to every installment
Loving this!!!! I hope Tina tells Bette how she feels real soon. Maybe after she talks to Ellie I hope. Thank you PPVS
Brilliant update. Thank you :)
