    Strictly Roommates – Chapter 13

    Previously:

Tina stared as Bette leaned in close to Carly, whispering things in her ear that were making her blush.  Bette’s hands smoothed a path down the other woman’s back, brushing over her ass.  Tina’s stomach lurched in jealousy, and she felt her face grow hot.  In that moment, Bette looked up at Tina over Carly’s shoulders, unblinkingly.  Tina returned the stare for a moment, and then quickly turned to Alice and Dana.

    “So.  Let’s meet Brenda.”

    “I knew you’d come around.”

“Those two are looking cozy.  I think we did good,” Alice said, smiling.

“Jesus Christ, Alice,” Bette said, slapping the table firmly with her palm.  “Nobody asked either of you to do this.  What the hell does Brenda know or care about Tina?”

Alice inched away from Bette, slightly taken aback.  A sudden look of realization extended across her face.

“Oh my God,” she said slowly.  “How did I not see this?”

With her head down, Bette did not see Shane until she was one foot out the door, at which point she was crashing into her.  Shane caught her just as her legs started to give out.  Realizing that it was her friend, Bette allowed herself to collapse into her arms, her body wracked by sudden sobs.  The sounds of her crying were drowned out by the pulsing music as she clawed at Shane’s skin, desperately trying to hold on to something; anything.

As quickly as possible, Shane got Bette into a cab and took her home.

Shortly after Shane got Bette home, Bette insisted on being alone.  Shane left reluctantly, deciding to go back to Milk to check in with the others.  Bette grabbed a bottle of whiskey out of the cupboard and headed out back.  She climbed onto the daybed that she and Tina had so often shared, and she drank straight from the bottle.

Bette had been gone from Milk for about 15 minutes when Tina realized her absence.  She had been too caught up in the excitement of Brenda’s attention that she had lost track of Bette.  In addition, she was willing herself to purposefully not keep tabs on Bette, particularly after seeing Bette chatting up those other women.

    1. Oh no! Bette feels hurt, and reacts by hurting Tina in return. That line about never moving there was way harsh – ouch! Poor Tina. Why aren’t the friends being more helpful? These two need help buying a clue. Great post, angst and all. thanks atlas!

    2. Oh, Bette. Heartache and jealousy can make one act so thoughtlessly, but still… ugh. If Tina gives her the time of day, Bette’s got a such lot of apologising and explaining to do. Maybe Shane can like, talk some sense into Bette, and she’ll be able to buy her a little time. Otherwise, Tina might be gone by the time Bette gets to her senses. Thanks for the post, atlas. More when you can please. :)

    3. Oh Bette. You better sober up and stop being such a sorry drunken ass. That’s a first I think, never called her that before :o Don’t think they can fix this without coming forward with their feelings, but maybe that’s the way you’re setting up, parting them for a while? Either way, more soon please. :)

    4. hmm good news she didn’t sleep with Brenda bad news…came home to a hurtful intoxicated Bette Porter..maybe Shane can can flick the light switch..
