    Strictly Roommates – Chapter 15

    Previously:

“Leave me, Bette,” she said, warningly.

“I won’t.”  Bette took another step closer to Tina.

“Don’t come near me,” Tina said, backing up into the dresser.

“Please, I’m sorry,” Bette choked out, reaching out for Tina’s arm.

“Don’t touch me!” Tina yelled, pushing Bette away from her.  Bette stumbled back a bit.  “God, don’t touch me.”  Tina grabbed a duffel bag of clothes off the floor.  “I’m staying at Shane’s for the night.  I’ll come back tomorrow while you’re at work to get the rest of my stuff.”

Bette cried herself into a state of genuine exhaustion.  She felt as though her limbs were dead weight.  Her heart felt like a stone, sinking.  The things she had said and done were inexcusable. She had to make things right with Tina, she just had to. Even if Tina never wanted to speak to her again, she had to apologize.  She had to tell Tina the truth.

Bette wiped her face and stood from her position on Tina’s bed.  She grabbed one of Tina’s t-shirts off the floor that hadn’t been packed yet.  It smelled of Tina, and Bette hugged it tightly to her.  Bette refolded it neatly, and brought it into her own bedroom.  In case Tina went through with this and moved out, Bette wanted to have a reminder of her.  She wanted to save her scent.  She wanted something that had caressed Tina’s skin in the way that she probably never would.

Bette tucked the t-shirt into the bottom of one of her drawers.  She then reached up into her closet and pulled a shoebox down. It was a makeshift memory box, and it was filled with Tina.

She walked next door to Shane’s.  She stood on the back deck and knocked on the kitchen door.  Shane was sitting at the table, half expecting and fully hoping that Bette would have the sense to come over.  When Shane opened the door, Bette walked in, clutching the box under her arm.

“Where is she?” Bette asked, her eyes scanning all the rooms within her line of vision.

“In the spare bedroom.  It’s locked, though.”

Bette crossed the kitchen and was heading towards the hallway when Shane stopped her.

    1. Bette’s confession was rather sweet, but sad. At least the truth is out, or one side of it, anyway, so that’s one hurdle jumped. The ball’s in Tina’s court now. What will she say or do? Lovely story, atlas. Thanks for the post. :)

    2. Sniff! I’m really glad Bette found her lost words :-) A little honesty goes a long way in this situation, helps Tina understand why Bette said and did those things. I think you accidentally misplaced the rest of this chappy tho :-) Thanks atlas!
