The Adventures Of Bette Porter And Sissee Gardner After Yale (Part 8, Chapter 5)
    PART EIGHT: ORANGE GROVE, CALIFORNIA

    Chapter 5

And so, Bette Porter and I became friends and may I say our friendship was as close to the bone as one can get without going to bed with each other. Our lines of communication were wide open. We would sometimes talk for hours on the telephone. Cell phones were getting popular by then and I could reach her anytime, anywhere I wanted to. No one I ever knew used a cell phone like Bette did. It was with her night and day and she was always available.

We were also into the computer phase which became another medium we were fond of, exchanging rapid fire e-mails almost daily. Since service then was limited on my end with dial-up and one telephone line, she once wrote an e-mail, saying, “Get off the fucking computer so I can call you!”

As soon as I logged off, the telephone rang.

She not only came to my house, she even went to our kids games. In the fall of 1997, we had all three kids in sports. Kyle and Charlie played football while Mary was in soccer. Bette especially loved to go to Mary’s games because as she put it, “Damn, that kid is good!” It was a sight to see Bette Porter in sweats and sneakers, jumping up and down and cheering like a soccer mom every time Mary scored. Mary in fact adored her and loved going out for lunch with us when she was not in school

When the kids were not around Bette and I confided in each other about our sexcapades. She told me about her conquests and I told her about mine. When she was happy I was happy. When she hurt, I hurt with her. When I was in the throes of passion with a coach or a player’s mom, Bette listened to all the details and would advise me when I needed it. Most of the time we laughed together but sometimes we also cried. Just like we were the best of lovers, we did indeed become the best of friends

I would sometimes meet her just for coffee at a place in West Los Angeles called The Planet. It was not an easy trip for me, driving the crazy freeway network from Orange County to Los Angeles County but it was worth it.

    1. Hey, Sis, I would have liked some dialogue from Bette. You usually have her saying the most contrary but often concise comments. Slow it down and let’s have you and Bette process what’s going on. I have a feeling you’ll do that when Bette comes to your house. Thanks!

    2. This chapter filled in a very large time gap. It’s hard for me to imagine Bette & Sis as such close friends without being lovers, maybe that will change now that Bette & Tina are apart & Bette’s in a downward spiral. You know I love both couples, but as you’ve said before this is a BetteSis adventure. Can’t wait for the next chapter!

    3. kbergin47, Thanks for your comments. As you know in the storyline, Bette has good intentions of staying just friends with Sissee. In the next chapter however, you will find her changing her mind, although……well, you will soon know what I mean……..

    4. techgal, Thanks for still being here. You are like an old friend who surfaces now and then and I want you to know I appreciate it. There was a lot crammed into this chapter. In fact, it was two chapters when I wrote it originally. I personally enjoy writing the dialogue you found missing but the timeframe seemed more important to move things along. I assure you, there will be dialogue in continuing chapters.
