The Asking – Part 2
Minutes later, or hours, or perhaps longer, I was never sure which, we lifted our heads. With reddened eyes and roughened throats, we looked at one another and a faint smile wavered between us. The corners of her mouth curved upwards in a tentative manner, lighting a newer flame inside my chest that no longer rankled and scorched my feelings. Gasping at that it was there, blue and tiny and hot, I dug my fingers in deep, feeling her skin yield to my insistent touch. Our lips touched and for a second, for a blistering moment, all was right. We hung there, suspended in a contact of forgetting and forgiving, until tears caught her breath in her throat and she pulled back, her eyes darkening with apprehension and fear.
”Tee,” she breathed, her breath warm and insatiable on my cheek. “Tee, don’t…I can’t bear it…”
The longing in her voice ached in my chest, pushing me away from her and returning me to the hardened safety of my armored hide. Clothing myself in secrecy and pain once more, I stumbled backwards towards the bedroom door, reaching out until I felt the tangible wood of the frame underneath my fingers instead of the pliant intoxication of her flesh.
I opened my mouth, but no words came from it. I could still feel her lips on mine, the way they fit perfectly and reminded me of a tenderness I knew we had lost somewhere along the way, long ago. Frightened by the realization, I clung to the doorway and stared at her for a long moment, feeling as though this was the first, and the last time that I would see her this way.
”You’re leaving, aren’t you?” she spoke sadly, her eyes downcast and lowered in supplication.
Nodding, I put my palm over my chest; my heart was pounding so vehemently that I could feel it on my hand, pumping blood into my brain, making me live again. Sucking a huge breath, I let it out slowly, relishing the freshness in my body. I remembered something that Bette had told me once, when she was contemplating taking on the CAC and all its vagaries; she had said that sometimes, to find the destination, the journey took on a whole different route than the one you’d originally anticipated. Looking at her now, standing alone and helpless in front of me, I understood what she meant.
”I have to go, Bette,” I told her, trying not to see the disappointment in her face, in her stance.
”Are you coming back?”
Her words were desperate, ringing with anxiety and despondency, reminding my body of that intangible sense of need I had whenever I was with her. Raising her head, she threw out a hand to encompass the bedroom, the house, everything we had gathered and built and cared for together. Our life lay in the arc of her fingers, in the gesture she so carefully orchestrated to appear so careless.
”Your things,” she qualified, shrugging slightly. “Are you coming back to take them away?” Her voice was dull in the acceptance of my departure.
I looked at her, caught her gaze with my own and tried to tell her how I loved her. How I loved her so much that I was lost in my own desires and wants. That she represented my desires and wants; that I was left adrift and trying, helplessly, to swim against the tide. Of all the things I wanted to tell her, the overwhelming urge to hide them swept me up in a stronger current. I knew the tide was turning, but I was unable to say when, and how, and why. Wanting so much to tell her this and yet unable to voice anything without falling into her arms once more, I locked it all away in my chest, saving it for the perfect moment when I would be able to tell her all of this, and more.
”Maybe,” I told her, watching a faint glimmer of hope enter her eyes.
And, with a strength I didn’t even know I possessed, I turned and walked away.
The End.

Billy Bob says “Ah laahk the way yoo wraaht.”
I swear you have an insight on Bette and Tina that is amazing. That was starkly honest and realistic. And I loved how you incorporated the new promo into it. Well done, Gaymo!
Ohhh Gaymo this whole story has totally pulled at my heart strings, your writing style is amazing and it leaves my heartbreaking for the lost love between Tibbete.
You have a fantastic way of capturing and putting into words the rollercoster of emotions that a couple go through when something like this happens, the feeling of wanting to stay but at the same time knowing that you have to let go.
Soo sad but yet so captivating at the same time, thank you !!
So very sad. Love hurts so terrible sometimes. Thanks
I need to comment one more time. I hate Tina. Happy? Now bring back that loving feeling I have for her by continuing your story in Part 3 or I am heading to the empire state building an jumping off!
sad…intense…so very well written
I’ve decided to paint my body in the L Word colors and leap off a tall building. I’ll be calling your name the whole way down though, gaymo. My sincerest hope is that the next chapter materializes before I become one with the ground. My guts have already been torn out, so I’m thinking I might be a bit aerodynamic. That should buy me some time, no?
Gaymo, please. My guts are begging you. The ground I will be splattering on begs you. My loins beg you.
I’d love to compliment this like a normal person but you’ve rendered me child-like and I can’t find the appropriate words.
Gaymo, you are my literary goddess. Yes, I worship many, but for this story, you get extra fucking candles. :D Amazing. Absolutely amazing.
Heartbreaking. It’s a beautiful Sunday afteroon and I read this and feel sad and dejected. Please don’t leave it like this. As I have said before, use your enormous talent for good…put them back together, please.
Everything emotion you wrote is so plausible. But it doesn’t have to stay this way. I hope you will continue and show the maturity of these two women who so desparately and completely love each other. Forgiveness is a character trait that hasn’t been taught enough. Love is not about getting even, it’s about forgiveness. Your story—simply BEAUTIFUL.
Absolutely stunning.
sad…so sad…super heartbreaking sad…
Did you enjoy reaching in and twisting my guts? Did you?? Excellent chapter. You are awesome.
Gaymo, you have the “IT” factor of a brilliant writer. It was a true pleasure to read!!!!!!! I hope you continue to dazzle us with your gift…
Speechless…wow…omg…awesome…bravo!!
That was a great story.
This was Outstanding, Amazingly written, the raw emotions running all over. I totally take a bow. bravo!!!!
Um, gaymo? I’d really like to eat lunch today. But I don’t like, have any guts. *voice going up at the end* So, if you could write more of this story and give them back, my body would appreciate it.
I mean, sure. I look all skinny without my guts but I can’t let that sway me in my begging for a positive resolution to this crotch-kicker of a story.
Until then, I’ll be renting myself out to carnivals as Gaymo’s Gutless Wonder. Any and all proceeds will go towards whatever you need to complete this story. :D
*stares longingly at her lunch* :D
5 stars, again. And again. And again. And again….
