The Burden of Control – Chapter 1
Kit and Bette Porter sat next to one another in the clinics
waiting room. Bette appeared to be the more relaxed of the two, sitting quietly
thumbing through the pages of an architectural magazine. Whereas a Kit sat
somewhat slouched in her seat, nervously bending the covers of the unopened
novel in her hands.
Kit: Baby girl, are you absolutely sure that you dont want
me to go in there with you? I mean
Bette (interrupts)
Kit for the third and hopefully last time, Im sure. I had to bring someone
along in case they needed to take more tests and I couldnt drive. NOT because
they have any bad news, ok?
Kit: Okay. Im just worried about you.
Bette: I know and I appreciate your concern. I doreally I
do. But Im telling you, Im fine. I
mean were talking about MY body here. I would know something were wrong.
Kit: I know. Well Im glad you made the appointment,
nonetheless.
Bette: Wow I sense some revisionist history creeping in. If
I recall correctly, YOU made the appointment for me. Then dragged my ***** here
after making me think we were going out to lunch. (Pauses) You still owe me that lunch, by the way. Dont think that
Ive forgotten.
Ms Porter, a high pitched disembodied voice called from somewhere among
the file cabinets stationed behind the receptionist’s desk. A moment later, a
tall and rather lanky redhead came into view holding a manila folder. Ms.
Porter, the doctor will see you now.
Both Kit and Bette rose in acknowledgement. Kit turned
towards her sister as Bette bent down to place the magazine onto a nearby
table.
Kit: Are you sure you dont want
Bette: Im positive. Im a big girl, Kit. I can see the
doctor all by myself.
Kit: Ok, okay. Good luck then. I love you.
Bette: (Smiles as she
pulls Kit into a brief hug) I dont need luck, but thanks. I love you too.
She starts to follow the nurse down a side corridor,
then pauses at the entryway.
Bette: Hey, Kit?
Kit: (looks up from
her book) Yeah, baby girl?
Bette: When I get out of here, youre taking me to lunch.
(Pauses to think) Somewhere expensive…maybe Italian.

Great start…I always wanted a have a Bette “reaction scene” to Tina leaving. I mean we all saw Tina show up at Alice’s after the fact, but nothing about Bette.
Uh oh, Bette’s going to the doctor…not a good sign.
BVHALL wE FORGET THAT THERE WERE REASONS FOR bETTY CHEATING,ON tINA WASN’T RIGHT BUT YOU DO GO LOOKING WHEN THE ONE YOU LOVE DOESN’T SEE YOU ANYMORE. THANKS
Excellent start! Keep it up.
There is something called broken heart syndrome… but I don’t remember the scientific name for it… that would be interesting if that is what Bette ends up having… great start I like it a lot!!
I’m really liking this so far, tibette! Looking forward to your next chapter. :) I hope that Bette’s okay.

Liking the start of this, and Bette’s version of things. But please hopefully nothings wrong with Bette that Having Tina won’t fix, cos I think via all the other stories are girls have gone through enough.
