The Chart – Chapter 54
Everyone gathered at Peggy’s brownstone for a late buffet dinner after having spent the evening among the tens of thousands crowded on the sidewalks near Rockefeller Plaza to witness the iconic tree lighting ceremony. Similar to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade the Christmas tree lighting was recognized world-wide as a symbol of the beginning of the holiday season being widely celebrated in New York City. The tree, traditionally a Norway spruce was illuminated by 30,000 LED lights on five miles of wire, and crowned by a Swarovski crystal star. It was a spectacular sight. The event with live and taped performances was broadcasted and viewed by millions across the globe.
Alice and Maxine made their way through the buffet line taking their food selections from a variety of delectable choices. Maxine was getting acquainted with each of Bette and Tina’s friends throughout the days they’d spent together. Alice delighted Maxine with anecdotal stories about life in Hollywood, growing up as the daughter of an aging actress and the many aspects of her own celebrity as writer, daytime TV show co-hostess, and radio personality. As they sat down to enjoy their meal Alice explained ‘the Chart’ and the intricacies of interconnectedness.
“They are random acts of sex … encounters, romances, one night stands, 20 year marriages. Any time you get a group of gay girls together you are guaranteed someone slept with someone else who has slept with someone else who has slept with someone else in the room. Except my theory is not just about lesbians and random sex acts; my point is that we are all connected through love, loneliness, through one tiny lamentable lapse in judgment. All of us in our isolation we reach out from the darkness; from the alienation of modern life to form these connections. I think it’s really a profound statement about the nature of human existence.”
“And what you were saying earlier is that being together in this room at this moment in time isn’t happenstance? We’ve all formed these connections that brought us here?”
“Exactly. For the most part we’ve all come from broken homes whether through divorce or death or separation. Or else we’ve been alienated or outcasts from family because of our life choices so we’ve formed these connections and created these familial ties that link us to fill that void.”

You are absolutely right about Alice, she hurts a lot of people with her behaviour. She thinks that she can get away with it just because “she is Alice ” i never liked her.
Thanks for the update!

It’s time for Alice to learn to respect other people’s feelings. Thanks for this update.

Great update in filling in some gaps. Alice was always “quirky” but she carried it to extremes w/o considering anyone’s feelings. She always has to be right and the first to know about everyone’s dealings. Her behavior gets old and many times is hurtful.

ALICE is vindictive yet cunning in the way she delivers her venom.Hurting people and pretending its a game shows how demented this woman is.BETTE is a true friend to SHANE and maybe TINA needs to slap some sense into ALICE but why when that noose around her neck is getting tighter.thanks

A really Great Update thanks BAT. So agree with you (and it seems others making comments) about Alice. She annoyed the hell out of me in the show and again in your story.
I also love the changed Shane and hope her and Molly make it.
The way of working script from the show into your story is still working for me and I love the way you use your ‘creative license’

I’m in agreement with everyone else. Alice hurt a lot of people with her unfiltered comments and never really got nailed for making them. I hope she finally realizes there are consequences. Enjoyed it, thanks

I think in the show Alice helped Tina get Joyce Wishing as an attorney b/c she wanted to help Tina but also to repay Bette for dumping her (Alice). You know, Karma is a bitch! Alice did say on the show that she knows first hand that Bette can be hurtful.

All my comments seem to be going everywhere except where they should be going. Good to hear that you were able to read it though.
