    The Chase – chapter 1

Bette sat in her chair, her head thrown back and her eyes closed. Her head was pounding so hard she was certain the whole building could hear it. The night before, her colleagues at the CAC had thrown her a farewell party and she had way too much to drink. «I’m getting too fucking old for this», she reflected, slowly rubbing her temples.

The day after tomorrow would be her last at the centre since she had decided to open her own art gallery in West Hollywood. Bette jumped when James suddenly buzzed her.

She angrily picked up the phone. «What?», she yelled at her assistant, making her head hurt even more.

«Bette ? The reporter from the L.A. Times is here», James said.

Bette closed her eyes and tried to think… Somewhere in her fuzzy mind, she vaguely remembered that she had scheduled this appointment with the paper, but she had forgotten all about it. With her headache, the last thing she wanted to do was to answer some noisy reporter’s questions

«Tell him I just died and I can’t be reached from the great beyond…», she snapped, hoping that would do the trick.

There was an awkward silence at the other end. «Did you fucking hear me James?», Bette asked curtly.

«It’s a she, Bette and I’m on the speaker phone…», he replied.

«You are so fucking fired James…», Bette muttered under her breath. «Tell her I’ll be there in a few minutes. On second thought, don’t bother repeating this since she must have heard me…», she said, slamming the phone down.

«She sounds nice», the reporter said sarcastically to James.

«Actually, she is quite nice… when she’s in a good mood that is», James explained, defending her boss.

«Don’t tell me you’ll miss her when she leaves here?», the woman asked, frowning.

«Actually I won’t because she hired me to be her assistant at her new gallery», James replied with a chuckle

At that moment, the door opened and Bette showed up. She gave James an evil stare and then turned her attention to the reporter. She sucked in a breath when she noticed how attractive she was. «Damn, that is one fine looking woman», she thought as she admired the blonde nicely dressed in a navy-colored suit.

    1. Milady you sure work fast to get started on another story, LOL. I like this already, it’s different and I like the name Patty but cause it’s mine, hahaha but not this Patty who was kinda crude with saying Dyke,,,,,anyway, loved it!

    2. Love it when Tina will say I’m straight. Yet she will call someone out on name calling. To me dyke is a dam, to hold water back not a name for a person.

    3. wow, back so soon? that’s great. I like this one. I thought Alice was going to be the reporter at first, but I was glad to see it was T. the title suggests that there will be chasing. since Tina is ‘straight’, I guess Bette will have to put in some work to get her. Good! pps

    4. This is a promising story; keep up the writing. Please note that I already have had a long story called “The Chase” on this site. It’s a little confusing to now see the same title being used again.

    5. hey mlady… were actually talking in den.. Nicky got me into this story and now im hooked… keep doing what your doing.. thank you for writing you rock!! yayayaya

    6. … speaking of “offensive words”, there’s one, in english, that I find very offensive to me, it’s “straight”, because it implies a “moral” judgement towards those that are NOT straight : to me, it’s as strong as if people were telling “I’m Normal” (implying “you are NOT”)…… well, english is not my first language so, happily, I don’t have to use it in life ;-)) Now on to your story : I liked it, and I don’t have to ask your for the next post… since it’s already there, so I’m just going to read it now…… ;-) Keep going :-)
