The Costume “Party”
“I’m telling you I’m not going.” Bette shook her head adamantly, stubbornly, starting Alice’s eye roll, which lasted a good ten seconds.
They sat in the middle of The Planet; Bette, Alice, Dana, Tina and Shane, enjoying a late afternoon coffee at their favorite hangout. The others sat silent as Bette and Alice bantered back and forth, moving their heads from one person to the other, as if watching one of Dana’s tennis matches. The topic of the evening: The Best Halloween Costume Party in Los Angeles. Alice thought it’d be fun if everyone went. Bette thought otherwise.
“Come on Porter! You’re old, but I didn’t think you were so old you were incapable of having fun.” That comment earned Alice a crumpled napkin to the face. “See? Totally immature.”
“I’m not going Al. It’s ridiculous. You get dressed up like a fool, or a prostitute, drink spiked punch until you pass out, and wake up on the couch with a transvestite named Cherry and Scooby Doo’s head piece stuck between your legs.”
“What friggen party have you gone to?!” Dana squealed in disgust.
“Halloween Party of 95. And excuse me, it was not between my legs, it was on my lap.” Alice retorted, sneering. Dana gaped, Shane smirked and nodded in approval, and Tina shook her head.
Tina, who up until now just watched the exchange between her friend and girlfriend with slight amusement, decided to take over on Alice’s behalf. Besides, she wanted to have fun. She’d never been to a real costume party before. Lopping her arm through Bette’s, she moved closer to her lover’s ear and whispered, “Come on babe, it’ll be fun, I promise,” all the while winking at Alice as a devilish smirk crossed her face.
Seeing Alice’s smirk in return, Bette sighed, knowing she was first, outnumbered, and second, unable to resist when Tina whispered in her ear with that husky, sexual voice. “Fine.” She grumbled, as Alice clapped with delight, “but I’m not dressing up.”
“But it’s a costume party!” Dana added ,finally deciding to speak up. “You can’t go without a costume.”
Alice shook her head. “No, it’s okay. She’s scary enough as she is.” That comment earned a hush from everyone else at the table, and a gentle kick to the shin from Shane.

It’s no longer Hallowe’en (here at least), but it was creepy. I bet Gabby did it on purpose. Good stuff.
I figured Gabby did it on purpose too. Very interesting! I laughed when Tina was like “leave me with the cat.” xD
Good Story. Thanks
Okay, I didn’t finish reading yet, but I read until page 2 and the reference to JLBT’s Pretty women, and I just had to comment…. THANK YOU!!!! This is just awesome to imagine those two with their respective outfits! And as I love JLBT’s version, you can imagine how thrilled I am to think of them going to this party dressed like that!… Okay, off to read the rest!
Hahaha…. classic Al. I suppose Gabby dials 119 in emergencies?
Great Story Manda L. =)
LMAO!!! Terrific story, Manda L. I could totally imagine them all in that ballroom, totally spooked and rushing for the exit! Yeah, Tina’s line “Great, leave me with the cat” cracked me up too! A perfect Halloween story, thanks!
