The date.
“Got it boss, I’ll be right up,” I said and hung up, “well, gotta go, see ya later.”
I went upstairs and met my new patient. As I was walking her around the floor, my mind went to Tina. Her long flowing blonde hair, her gorgeous blue eyes, her heart melting smile, I just couldn’t get enough. My cell kept going off; Jodi had been blowing my phone up all day trying to get me to go to one of her dinners. I was just not in the mood, especially to be paraded in front of strange people like a piece of eye candy.
Finally my long day had ended, it was still early and I had a few hours to kill before I met the girls at The Planet. Since moving to Los Angeles, I had reconnected with my older sister, Kit, who owned The Planet. It was nice to have someone I knew here that would help me out if I needed. Though Kit and I didn’t have the best relationship growing up, her being fifteen when I was born, we were able to grow a relationship. She is now one of my best friends in the world.
“Hey Porter,” I heard which snapped me out of my reverie.
“Hey,” I said excitedly, seeing Tina walking towards me.
“So Eric and my brother-in-law took my son to a baseball game tonight and they left me to fend for myself.”
“Oh no, that’s terrible,” I said and laughed.
“Do you wanna have dinner with me?”
“Um,” I stuttered, shocked, “yeah.”
“Cool, so do you wanna meet up or…?”
“I can pick you up, if that’s ok.”
“That’s cool, here’s my address,” she said writing on a piece of paper, “text me when you’re there.”
I hurried home and jumped in the shower, I only lived about ten minutes away from the hospital, so I got there in five. I showered quickly because I didn’t want her to change her mind because I took forever to get ready. But, I wasn’t sure how to dress, should I dress casual? Or do I dress to impress? It seemed Tina was having the same problem, soon I heard my text ringer, what do I wear? she asked. I smiled as we were both indecisive. The place I wanted to take her we’d have to dress to impress, and not to be conceited, I looked good when I dressed to impress. I thought about it for a whole second, I mean did I really want to try and seduce a married woman? My conscience was doing a number on me. I was really in love with Tina and I wanted her to know what she was missing. Not even a second later my phone rings again, I really want to go to that new place, Spice. Well, seems the decision has been made, dress to impress it is.
As I turn down her street, my heart races. I have never been this anxious before a date, ever. Then I stop myself, is this a date? She knows I’m gay and we’re going to one of the most highly rated romantic restaurants in L.A. I keep overly thinking this whole situation as I pull into her driveway, I get out and text her. I walk up to her door and a few seconds later it flies open and we both gasp. All the thoughts I had were nonexistent, the worries and fears were gone and there stood an angel.
