The Dying of the Light Part 19
Hypothermia; the loss of heat from the body.
A slow shut down of ones metabolism as the heat leaches from your body, causing it to shiver. Fine motor tasks become impossible, muscles cease to work.
Like most things, it comes in stages. Progressively getting worse. And worse. Until it stops. The body stops shivering, a strange sense of peace overcome the senses. Euphoria.
The body is playing tricks, and the mind is backing it up. Stage 3 and your out.
It cheats you of the knowledge you are going to die. Of the truth of your situation. Your mind is scrambled, falsehoods dance. Illusions both optical and mental walk, talk.
The heart shuts down as the pulse weakens, the brain deprived of oxygen because the heart cannot pump enough blood…
Everything’ a lie – how do you know what the truth is when your body betrays you.

“Hey, hey. Hey Now.” Shane whispered, wrapping her arms around the weeping blonde, “What, I don’t. Last I heard…” Shane started, unsure what question she should ask first. Last time she had talked to any of the girls, which was weeks ago now, Tina still hadn’t of returned home, Bette was still in hiding, and everyone was trying to pick up the pieces and get on with life.
Deep down Shane felt guilty for leaving her friends and running off on her honeymoon with Carmen. She’d wanted to, and was going to come home on more then one occasion but Helena and Alice had stopped her, told her to enjoy herself, and she really had. Travelling for months with someone you loved had the power to make even the most crappiest of accommodations the Taj Mahal.
“Are you okay?” Shane asked, finally deciding on solving the most immediate concern before launching into other lines on enquiry.
“I’ll make coffee.” Carmen suggested, rubbing Shane’s back before sliding past them both into the home, and on to the kitchen. Carmen knew that they would need something hot, something to think over, mull with and occupy their time.
People were like that, they enjoyed delaying the inevitable. To pause in tough conversations, to reflect to think about where to go next. Those moments Carmen always found the most dishonest, the most cloying and distant.

I hope Bette is OK an gets help..from doctors and Tina. pps
Another great chapter…PPS.
I’m hoping that they will let Tina see Bette very soon. I feel like Tina didn’t know what was going on with Bette, She was part of Bette peoblen, but Bette had a big hand in it. Now is not the time to point fingers. Just get Bette in goodhealth and sound mind. thanks This was still sad.Poor shane.
Even re-written, still very sad. Hope Kit will let Tina come and see Bette and stay with her, she and Angie, for awhile, needs to be with Bette. Bette needs to know that Tina does still love her no matter how hard she has tried not to do so. This is not really Tina’s fault but Bette’s slone. Bette has real mental problems due to her own and Tina’s actions. But Bette is the reason that she tried to take her own life, no one else can be blamed wholly. Tina can be blamed partially but it was Bette’s decision to take her life. Now Tina can also be part of the reason for Bette’s healing, if Kit will let her. Hopefully Helena can sway Kit to let Tina bring the baby and for both to see Bette. Thanks for posting. PPS
Well, that would be a big no I’m not, since Tina is still punishing Bette for her mistake six years ago, stopped the adoption, said that Bette wouldn’t miss Angie or didn’t even love her, ,and took Angie away from Bette completely, putely out of spite. Nothing Bette did would ever justify Tina’s taking their child. Bette had no idea if she would ever see Angie again. this isn’t “oops, my bad” stuff. What about this behavior is admirable or “fan” worthy?
Just re-read this one. It’s still as painful as the first post. I’m still holding out that Bette’s going to pull through. I’m also hoping that Tina will see her ASAP and not leave her side. She is finally putting all the pieces together and getting the picture of Bette’s state of mind. She has to be there to help bring Bette back from the bottom….especially since she played a part in putting her there. IMHO. :) PPS – this has been away for too long. :)
Hello there, sweet Deean! Now we understand why you wanted to edit this chappy. As an artist places the brushes of details on a canvas, that what you did with this part. Perhaps it was important to emphasize certain attitudes on the characters, so we may see where they stand at this particular time. Our grasp of the overall situation, is that everyone is feeling guilty, for not anticipating Bette’s suicide attempt. However, no one could prevent that from happening. Bette was already merged in her own darkness. We believe that the next step is for them to talk to the psychiatrist first. There are some professional hints that all of them need to learn, in order to provide the required help, Tina included. We do not think that the presence of Angie at the hospital will be wise. The innocent little girl will not understand the critical condition in which her mom B is. We shall wait for your next update, to see where you are leading us. Thanks for making your Authors’cut on this chappy. PPS Hugs & kisses on both your cheeks. – Lucero & Marsha (Proud Salsa Aunties to the ever loving JC and Eunichick)
still awesome update!! the gang can’t blame tine for this at all. bette needs to take responsiblity… i hope tina will be able to see bette while in recovery.:)PPS
not a fan of Tina, Caliegh? : )
I need the next chapter NOW!
I find it interesting that even though Bette had been spiraling down since Tina left, she didn’t commit this drastic act until Tina reappeared. this tells me that seeing Tina is causing her pain and Bette needs to stay far away from her until she is in a healthier place. This is a Bette story, it does NOT have to involve Tina, and it’s okay to say that Tina is not what Bette needs. She has hurt Bette and needs to stay away. I guess Tina could do anything imaginable to Bette and would get a pass.
