Smiling, the Doctor nervously ran his hands over his stained scrubs.  “She is in recovery and will be moved into a room when she regains consciousness.”  He noticed the blonde woman at Kit’s side, and before revealing her injuries he asked “Do you want to be alone while we chat about your sisters prognosis?”

Kit pursed her lips, trying to figure out what he meant before shaking her head “Alice is family, please, is my baby sis okay?”

“She will make a recovery, we are unsure whether or not she will ever have full mobility in her left hand.  The glass done damage to her nerves and tendons, and she will require a lot of physiotherapy before we can have a clearer picture, she may also need more surgery.  The glass also caused some arterial damage and we had to give her a transfusion as she had lost a lot of blood.  She has broken her index and middle finger as well as damaged her knuckles on her ring finger.”  He paused, waiting to see if there were any questions.  Met with silence, he continued, “I have set up an appointment with a neurologist and a plastic surgeon for tomorrow.  Do you have any questions?”

Kit couldn’t believe that her sister may be suffer from permeant injuries, “is there anything we can do to help?”  It wasn’t what she wanted to ask, but she needed to help, needed to do something other then watching Bette in pain.

The Doctor gave Kit a compassionate look “Ms Porter, Kit, there is nothing that can be done to facilitate your sisters recovery until we know the extent of damage.  Until then, the only thing you can do is be there for her.”

“I’m not even going to dignify that bloody accusation with a response Tina because you know better.”  Helena couldn’t believe that Tina was going to go down this road.  Did Tina honestly believe that the only people who care about Bette are those who are intimate with her, or is that just something that justifies Tina’s anger?

“Who are you to tell me what Bette needs?  I’ve known her for a decade.  I was with her for just shy of one.  I know Bette Porter.”  Tina intoned clearly, raging just below the surface.
