Chapter 2
Pine Valley, USA
The year was 1939 and at age twenty, Bianca Montgomery had fallen in love for the first time in her life.
She remembered everything about that day; how quiet the usually busy street was as folks stayed home to escape the bitter cold of winter, the aromatic smell of finely brewed coffee filling her nostrils, the heat from the steaming cup warming her numb fingers, the gossipy chatter of the few tables around them. But most of all, she remembered how the woman who stole her heart looked at her with unabashed adoration.
Lena Kundera. She was even in love with her name; exotic, mysterious, different, and beautiful, just like the woman herself. Lena swept into her life not more than two weeks ago, yet she felt like she had known her forever. Lena knew what Bianca wanted, needed; she never had to ask and Lena gave it to her freely.
Bianca was born into a life of privilege; riches built by her grandfather when he struck gold in the California gold rush, and later expanded to a publishing and cosmetic empire run by her late father and now, her mother. From birth, she was lavished with the finest things life had to offer, from the dresses she wore to the education she was given, down to the silverware she ate with.
But, with the good, there was the bad. Her mother protected her and her sister Kendall like a lioness protecting her cubs, sheltering them from what their mother deemed were realities too harsh for her precious daughters. Their every move was shadowed; people were always polite to them, always guarding their words, afraid to offend a powerful family like theirs.
She sought refuge in the books and newspapers she read, hungrily devouring the words and images, dreaming of a life far away from the pretty gardens and boutiques of upscale Pine Valley. Then, there were the expectations placed on them to marry into a family befitting their status.
Her mother already had her eyes set on a suitor for her; a young man by the name of George, he of the equally rich and powerful Cooper family. There was nothing wrong with George; she was rather fond of him. He was as handsome as a movie star, pleasant, kind and funny, a real catch for any lucky damsel. But she didn’t love him, never would. In fact, she had never felt any love or attraction for a man.

Layla-Gray!! You’re back! And you are too funny dragging Jo and Blair and Bianca and Maggie right along with you! I couldn’t have been happier to see your name pop up. And which is greater, this wacky crossover of women or setting it all during WWII??? Welcome Back, great start!

I’m not really familiar with the other pairings but this is super interesting. More soon please. Thanks
