The Fast and Fevered Fall – Chapter Twenty Seven

Tina pushed open the door of the bar. She waited until her eyes adjusted to darkness before making her way to the bar to get a drink. If she was honest with herself she didn’t really need to get a drink, she’s had enough already. This time she convinced herself that she needed a drink to gain the courage to come to this bar by herself. There was something of the unknown about it. In all of the years that she had been with Bette she had never needed to come to bars to meet women, she already had the woman that she considered perfect for her.

Then she got married, and she certainly hadn’t met Henry in a smoky bar. How different her life was then, she was still living with Bette, not understanding why it wasn’t working out, or why she had developed feelings for men. First there was Josh, who Tina knew to be a mistake but instead of thinking clearly and explaining to Bette what she thought was happening she went looking for someone else. For Henry, and it was so easy to blame everyone else, and specifically one person, but herself. It was Bette’s fault for cheating on her, for going to the retreat instead of being there while Tina was still trying to figure out how to forgive her, and it wasn’t as if Bette was the only one who had done things that needed to be forgiven for. Tina had been cruel Bette since she moved back in, the fighting over money just being one instance of the way that Tina had purposely hurt Bette in revenge.

So much had been wrong and Tina had just found it easier to take the simple option that Henry presented, only as time would tell, he wasn’t the easy option at all. He was the option that had led her here, to a bar in San Francisco looking for someone to talk to. To searching for someone who she thought would understand her.

As Tina made her way slowly to the bar she kept her head down, not wanting to catch anyone’s eye. She pulled out a stool and sat down, waiting patiently for the bartender to finish with her current customer. The bar was fairly empty which Tina was grateful for, she didn’t want to be crowded while she was getting accustomed to her new surroundings. She shook her head, thinking back to all the things that led her here. She knew that it wasn’t just Henry. It was all the missed chances with Bette, before Henry and since.

    1. Another piece of the puzzle falls in place. Gosh, Tina sure does know how to beat herself up. Bette’s pretty much totally forgiven her — long ago by the sounds of it, Angelica loves her unconditionally… Tina really just needs to learn how to forgive herself. I know it will come. Yet again, a great (but sad) chapter, citygirl.

    2. Well City, it was a great chappy, but I personally am ready for the future! That was depressing!I want to see the “movement”. I luv the story, just tend to luv the positive more.

    3. Another chapter to love…I could feel Tina’s pain. I don’t think Bette was being formal…she was probably shcoked and worried about Tina’s phone call. They seem to be few and far between. Keep posting.

    4. Well CityGal, The misery really piles on in this sorrowful tale however I do believe that you have to reach the bottom before you can attempt to climb up again. The descent is torturous as time and time again Tina tries to validate her actions and fails. She is in purgatory but reaching out to those she loves. Thankfully Bette was there and able to talk. It might not get Tina to hit the deck but it does offer some light at the end of this tormented tunnel. You are nor afraid of showing us the darkness that this can bring and I welcome your bravery at showing it as it can be. Many thanks for this phenomenal fan fiction. Your Loyal Fan.
