Alice pushed her door open and threw her briefcase onto the floor.  It came to a crashing halt next to her table in the entry way.  She grimaced as it came popping open and spilled her papers onto the floor, oh ***** it she thought.

Friday, thank god it was ***** Friday!  She was weary, she was tired, she was hungry, and she wasn’t alone.  She looked and saw a shadow from behind her and she spun, right into Dana‘s arms.

“JESUS DANE!”  She yelled and Dana laughed unable to hide her amusement.  Alice grabbed her and hugged her tightly.  Dana smiled still not talking.  Dana had missed this, the easiness between them.  Dana hadn’t wanted to scare her just surprise Alice.

“Sorry Al.  I let myself in I thought you would have been here earlier.”  Alice took her hand away from her beating heart and shrugged.

Alice didn’t have anything to come home too she almost admitted.  It had been months since the accident and they had drifted back into the comfortable place of being friends.  No discussion no talk, just had happened.  Neither of them brought the subject up.  Alice thought that Dana had bulked, and thought that being her girlfriend wasn’t worth the trouble.  Or that she’d made a mistake by pursuing their relationship.  Alice didn’t want to ask, they had spared their friendship and she wanted to keep it that way.

“That’s ok.”  Was all Alice said sniffing the air like a Wolverine and smelling food.

“I brought take out from the Cantonese place you like.  I thought we could, just be us?”  Dana offered and Alice looked at her.

“You need to talk.”  Dana nodded and they sat down on the couch, picking food from the cardboard containers and drinking wine.  “So spill it Miss Dana.”  Alice said with a flair and Dana laughed.

“I have to talk to two people tonight…”  Dana started and took a sip of her wine.  “My best friend in the world Alice.  And my girlfriend Alice.”  Alice blinked, oh this wasn’t good.  Oh no, she was going to give her the ‘we are better off as friends speech.’  She knew she should have stayed at work.
