For their honeymoon Bette and Tina decided to just to spend a few quiet days away in a little cottage on the coast. It was nothing spectacular, but all that mattered was that they were together. They walked hand in hand round the small town, enjoying the sights and ate in the quaint local restaurants. They sampled home cooked food, and tasted each others’ bodies as though they were new lovers. On their last night they strolled down the beach watching the sunset, their fingers laced together.

“I want to hold onto this moment forever” Tina whispered, stopping and turning to face Bette.

“It’s so beautiful, isn’t it?” Bette looked up at the reddened sky.

“Yes” Tina said softly, her eyes fixed on Bette.

Bette’s eyes met Tina’s and they just held each others’ gaze for a moment. Tina ran her finger over Bette’s lips, and then replaced it with her mouth. Their lips moved together slowly, savouring the taste of each others’ mouths. Bette ran her hands up and down Tina’s arms, while Tina held onto Bette’s waist. They broke apart and Tina rested her head on Bette’s shoulder.

“I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy” Bette stroked Tina’s hair.

“Me neither”

“It’s like we’re the only two people in the world”

“Will you hold me?” Tina lifted her head.

“We can go back to the house” Bette suggested.

“Do you mind if we stay here a while? I just want to watch the sunset in your arms”

“Sure” Bette sat down in the sand with her legs apart.

Tina sat between Bette’s legs and leant back against her torso. Bette wrapped her arms round Tina and heard her sigh.

“You okay?”

“I just wish this week would never end” Tina said quietly.

“Baby, we have the rest of our lives together” Bette traced a circular pattern on Tina’s forearm with her finger.

“I know, but right now it’s just you and me. In reality there are other people too”

“We can have other people in our lives. But at the end of the day it’s just you and me in our home together. No-one else. And it’ll always be that way”

“I love you” Tina looked up into Bette’s eyes.

“I love you too” Bette kissed Tina softly on the lips.

Music drifted down to the beach from a nearby bar.

Bette wrapped her arms tightly round Tina and rested their heads together. Neither of them spoke, they just sat in comfortable silence.

A deep red spread across the horizon, and both women took in the beauty of the sight before them. Bette kissed the top of Tina’s head and stroked her arms.

“Thank you” Tina whispered.

“For what?”

“For making this past week so perfect…” Tina started.

“Just being with you made it perfect” Bette cut in.

“And for loving me”

“Well thank you for being so easy to love”

I’ve been waiting for so long
For something to arrive

Now my dreams are coming true
Through the good times and the bad
I’ll be standing there by you

“Can we go back to the house now?” Tina looked up at Bette.

“We can do whatever you want, baby”

Tina stood and held out her head to pull Bette up. They walked hand in hand back to the house as the song drew to a close.

They slept peacefully in each others’ arms, knowing that the next day they had to return to real life.

The next morning they drove home. It was a quiet journey as they both remembered the past few days. There was a sadness as they arrived home knowing that their honeymoon was over, but it didn’t matter because they were together. As they got to the front door Bette unlocked it and scooped Tina up into her arms.

“What are you doing?” Tina laughed.

“Carrying you over the threshold. It’s tradition”

Tina rolled her eyes and allowed herself to be carried into the living room. They collapsed in fits of giggles on the sofa, and started to kiss passionately. As Bette sat up to remove her top she noticed the light on in the kitchen.

“Hello? Alice?” she called.

She got up and walked to the kitchen, and was met by the last person on earth she expected to see.
