The Inauguration
“I want ‘Curious George.” Angelica gave a frown that would have won an Olympic medal if pouting were a sport in contention.
“Come sit with Mama B.” Bette patted the top of her thighs.
Angelica inched her way closer. When she got just close enough, Bette snaked out an arm.
And missed by a hair as Angelica squirmed back from her grasp. The moment of victory was short-lived, however, as with the move she landed right in the arms of her other mother.
“Got’cha!” Tina lifted her daughter to place a kiss on her cheek.
As the giggling girl made an ineffective attempt at escape, she was deposited into Bette’s lap.
Once there, she snuggled back, content in her Mama B’s embrace. As content as Angelica could be while being tickled, of course.
Noticing company coming up the outside stairs, Tina stepped away from the chaos on the couch to answer the door.
“Kit, Al, Tasha. Welcome.”
“Thanks for the invite,” Kit said, greeting her sister’s partner with a kiss on the cheek, and then handed over a cup of coffee. “Just the way you like it.”
“Where’s my coffee?” Bette asked.
“You didn’t call in an order.”
Bette gave Tina a pout to rival the one displayed earlier by her daughter. “I’ll share,” Tina said.
This caused Bette to smile.
“Provided you’re good, of course,” Tina added.
“Oh, I’m always good.”
“We don’t want to hear it, Porter,” Al interrupted.
This remark earned both a look from Bette and a nudge from Tasha, but Alice remained unapologetic.
“Helena’s bringing bagels,” Kit interjected, bringing down the tension a little.
“Who’s minding The Planet?” Tina wondered aloud, taking a seat on the couch next to Bette.
“Please, with the inauguration on TV, the place is almost empty.” Kit helped herself to a seat.
“Obama!” Angelica pointed at the TV set.
“That’s right, Boo. Only he’s going to be the President.”
Angelica looked at the screen, and then pointed towards the future First Lady. “Why isn’t she President.”
Tina almost choked on her coffee, while Tasha let out a hearty laugh.
“She’s pretty,” Angelica continued, justifying the statement.
“Maybe she’s too smart for politics,” Alice offered from her place on the floor, seated next to Tasha. That quip earned another nudge.

Hooray! Thanks for keeping Weho up to date. With authors like you, B&T will never go stale! I think B&T should join The Obamas in dancing that first dance to “At Last”.
Nice job ladies…well done! I’m not an American either, but it was a great moment in their history.
LOL – great job ladies. But… you know there is no way Tina and Bette would have been watching Faux News on election night – it would have been MSNBC & Rachel Maddow :)
this was great, it’s interesting to read it from little girl POV as well as adults…thanks
Well, if it takes a collaboration to get either of you back, so be it. Got to agree with socal about Fox and Maddow! I love me some Rachel. And I’d love to see more for you guys, either together or separately.
The inauguration of Barack Obama is something I will never forget. Nice story. :)
Thanks ladies for writing this little snippet in the annals of time. Loved Angie in this, especially the ending.
Loved Angelica!!!! and the fact that Bette is still upset that Ange loves Aunt Helena and that T chooses to ignore Bette.Great day in the world when color is not the measure of a man or woman or child.
couldn’t have said it better
Alice was right, that dude *did* screw it up, he def said “to”… Anyway, I really liked this, guys, thanks for the story.
