    The Kennards – Chapter 65

Jackson Steven Kennard nicknamed Jack was two years older than his sister Maggie and four years older than Tina. He was ten when their parents divorced due to Steven Kennard’s infidelity and abusive proclivities. Their mother Priscilla got full custody of the three children, cut all ties with her ex-husband and moved the family from Arizona to Georgia. As they settled into their new lives in Atlanta Priscilla started referring to Jack as the ‘little man of the house’. She also ingrained in him that as the only boy and the eldest it was his responsibility to protect and look out for his younger sisters.

Like most little girls Tina and Maggie worshiped their older brother especially since he was their main male influence. They enjoyed his attentions when they were children but as they grew into adolescents his over-protectiveness became stifling. When it came to dating his interference in their love lives was harder on Maggie since many of her early boyfriends were Jack’s friends first.

Tina sympathized with her sister’s plight not being able to fight the attractions to these boys, but was grateful that the four year age gap between her and Jack’s friends never put her in that predicament. Regardless Tina was never as amenable as Maggie so any of Jack’s attempts at intimidating her boyfriends would have been fruitless. Fortunately by the time Tina was old enough to have serious relationships with the pimply faced boys in high school Jack was already off to college.

Jack stayed in-state and attended the University of Georgia where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business. After graduating college and working in corporate America for a few years Jack at the age of 27 decided to make a drastic career change and joined the Army.

With his education, business experience and mature age, Jack was qualified to enter the military ranks as a commissioned officer but instead joined as an enlisted service member. For the next fifteen years he worked his way up the ranks. Now at age 42 he held the position of Command Sergeant Major. He’d had a stellar career. His family would have been very proud of his many accomplishments had they known about them. As for his personal life, he’d had several close calls and had actually been engaged once or twice but never married nor did he have children.

    1. So sad that. like all good things, it’s had to end:-(

Thank you for a great story. Will miss your daily posts and look forward to the Epilogue.

There has to be a sequel though surely as we need to meet Bette’s twins:-)

    2. BAT, i am truly sad and unhappy this amazing story is finished for now.

It was for the second time a journey with a lot of drama and healing, renewing family ties and most important the reconnecting from my favourite couple.

Thank you so much for reposting.

My only request for the epiloque is more Tibette, Angie and their sons.

A big fan, the best and i hope to see you back soon.

    3. Alas we are coming to a pause in this story, now do we go forward or turn left?It has been like climbing a mountain and when you reach the top you have achieved not only satisfaction at having completed the journey but your choices are now unlimited as to where you can go from there.BAT you kept us glued to this site almost single-handlely at one point and the twists you wove and the turns you made was for lack of a better word ”outstanding”.What more can anyone want that you didn’t provide———-nothing.Awaiting the epilogue or a new beginning, the choice is yours and thanks.

    4. Bat2012,

At your suggestion, I have now read the entire book…..First of all I feel this ending is rather abrupt….it needs to be continued. Bette and Tina’s boys need to be born and named and to be bonded with by Angelica, Greg and Cole’s daughter needs to be born and brought into the family. Dana and Lara need their child to be born. Helena needs to heal and redeem herself and become a productive member of society. Maggie needs her siblings, Tina and Jack.

The interconnecttivy of life is everywhere. Since the guy who raped Maxine ended up on the island with Dusty and Helena, I was surprised that they didn’t bump into each other. Dusty and her brother could have used all of his ill’gotten money to save their vanilla farm as Helena headed off to find herself.

Let me say this….while this story is based on the canon of the original story with some slight changes, the story of the break-up between Bette and Tina to me is one of the most realistic I have read. And their reconciliation and their therapy sessions where absolutely the emotional – heart breaking and heart warming I have ever read in any of the Tibette chronicles. I must say that I was worried that Tina although she wanted reconciliation, I wondered if she was ready to forgive. And as Bette started out with her listening to Tina, I was wondering if she could be non-judgmental. I could feel her pain as she listened to Tina’s motivations to do what she did. This reconciliation and therapy session is simply the most complete I have found. It hits all the major issues and shows major acceptance of the explanations and forgiveness which is necessary to move forward. And they did not proceed with intimacy until they were ready even though both really desired the other.

The story of Maxine Elizabeth Wolff and the reason for her 35 year absence makes complete sense in the fictional world. And the fact that Gregg Matthews turn up to be Bette’s brother and the husband to her freshman year college classmate and boyfriend seems like poetic justice. And the fact that Cole came so very close to being the sperm donor for Bette’s baby seemed like a reasonable thought at the time. And Bette ending up with fraternal twins is absolutely amazing.

I love this story and this too is one that I would like to see continue. And believe it or not, I believe that these two will remain in New York. Some how, Shane and Molly, and Kit and Angus will end up back on the east coast. Life is just too wonderful for Bette and Tina and their extended family. I could see the Peggy might purchase a large compound in Connecticut and put each family in their own home and provide the landscaping, house keeping and cooking services in order for the adults to pursue their professions, raise and educate their children to be empathetic, intelligent and friendly adults. I see Tina and Cole partnering together to provide charitable organizations advise and counsel to give social services to the New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and New Jersey areas. These organizations would be counseled and assisted by Peggy, Maxine, Gregg, and Bette in recruiting administrators and fund raising types and volunteers to accomplish their goals and become self-sustaining. I can see them all working with the mayors, the governors, and the legislatures to strengthen labor laws, enforcing landlord requirements to provide basic needs in housing such as proper plumbing, non-leaking roofs, proper heat and air and mold free environments. I would also like to see this group get into promoting ideas and methods to assist the world in climate control. I would hope that they would form groups to promote gardens in green spaces, hydroponics for local vegetables and fruits which can be accessed by the poor and those who are food deprived. I would love to see schools and organizations get involved in promoting physical activities among young people in a safe and clean environments.

I love your Bette and Tina…..they are really devoted to each other and to their extended family. I love the fact that Bette has really matured to see that her way is not always the only approach to life. And I love the fact that Tina realizes that she can be as self-centered as she perceived Bette. And I love the fact that Tina knows that she too can be vengeful and how destructive those actions can be. I also appreciate that both are willing to seek professional help when things get to be scary or too much to handle on their own.

Now as this relates to your on going story (From Here to Eternal Love), where Tina cheats (not Bette) and she leaves Bette six months after Angelica’s birth with no resolution to their problems. Then five years later, they decide to reconcile and pretty much go through their problems with a therapist up to the birth of Angie but have yet to move through that period of time after the birth. In your new story, you seem to indicate that their problems are a continuation or the unresolved older problems. However, the fact that Tina gives Bette an indication that she is ready to form a partnership to raise Angie and Bette seeing this as a first step to a reconciliation as a couple was bound to lead to problems. Perhaps I am the only one that sees this as a hole in their reconciliation process. This story has been fast moving in that they have decided to reconcile and married withing nine months and a year later they are going for their second child. And all of this following a 5 year period of being apart and no intimacy for more than 6 years. It just appears to me that these two still have some work to do. They are headed in the right direction and are taking the proper steps, It just doesn’t feel complete and with the potential of child number 2 on the way, I’m just nervous. Also with the fact that Tina still seams to be questioning of Bette when she does things which are not explained in advance such as showing up at the beach house when she is suppose to be in WeHo and talking to Peggy about their past problems when Angie was born. Perhaps Bette should not have talked to Peggy. But the relationship between Bette and Peggy is that of a mentor and a adviser and even the role of a parent. Tina’s relationship with Alice is that of a friend, a buddy, and not that of an adviser in her relationship and with potentially an agenda which is not in Tina’s best interest. Peggy’s only agenda is that Bette and Tina live a happy life and provide the best possible environment for Angie and their new baby. If this is an indication that Peggy is going to be a problem in Bette and Tina’s life, then now is the time for Bette and Tina to discuss it and to air their grievances.

Thank you for directing me to this story. I need to read the rest of your catalog. I love your writing.
