    Day One of Bette and Tina being out in public

     


    The three of us chat about all sorts of things for the short journey to the theatre.

     


    There is a huge crowd gathered – to see Tina and I for the first time. I wait until she gets out of the car – when she does there is a round of applause and cheering. I take hold of her hand.

     


    Together forever.

     

    I tell her – she nods.

     

     

    It looks like they like the idea of the two of you.

     


    Shane says joining us.

     

     

    I look up at the building and turn to Shane.

     


    Nearly every President comes to the Ford Theatre just to prove that they do not believe in coincidences do you know that Shane ?

     


    I do not believe in coincidences – I would rather we were not here.

     

     

    Nonsense Shane – I might ask for a open topped motorcade through Dallas next – past the Book Depository.

     


    Do not say that Bette.

     

    Tina tells me – I look at her — despite everything – she is anxious.

     


    Look Tina — they are here to see us.

     


    I carefully lead her through the line to the theatre entrance. I am holding Tina’s hand tightly while waving and acknowledging the shouts of good wishes. I look to my left at one point and see a sign

     

    LESBIAN MARRIAGE IS ABOMBINATION.

     

    Candace ?

     

    Madam President ?

     

    Get a message to the lunatics over there that I may be a lesbian but at least I can spell abomination. We must do something about education standards for the fundamentally stupid.


    She grins at me and  does that Secret Service thing of talking into her sleeve.


    I place my hand on Tina’s back and we go inside.

     

    The play is about the meeting of Lincoln and Booth in heaven – with JFK and Oswald in attendance — I love this sort of thing and I am looking forward to it.



    When we arrive in the box there is a spontaneous round of applause. I wave back.


    Just wave Tina.


    I tell her.


    Me ?

     

    Well you are my future wife – come on babe — once you do it once you do not feel half as silly doing it again.


    Okay

     

    Tina waves her hand at the crowd below and is rewarded by a cheer.



    She looks at me with a huge smile.



    Its going to be okay.



    It is Tina – I promise you.

    The interval in the performance arrives and as soon as the lights go up I stand up to stretch my knee which is has been aching for the last hour.



    Everything happens in a split second – there are two gun shots – lots of screaming – a body crashes into mine knocking me to the floor -a loud crack — a sound that is like a moan – my dress feels moist.

    3. “Nonsense Shane – I might ask for a open topped motorcade through Dallas next – past the Book Depository.”…I only mentioned that (assassination) in my last comments because I had just got home from Dallas and my first trip to Commerce St. (the Book Depository Bldg.). You sure know how to take an idea and run with it!…My next suggestion will be for a weekend of sexcapades. Much safer! Thanks.

    19. OMG! All the whike I’ve been thinking this is the calm before the proverbial storm. Little hints along the way, Power of Attorney, Clinton assassination, Ford Theatre – and then, BAM, final paragraph and all hell. Perhaps Tina’s nightmares are explained by someone she loved having been killed in Afghanistan and her not having been able to protect them? History repeating itself?     45. OMG, Ally, you’re so cruel to end the chapter like this and leave us hanging! Well, I imagine it’s not Bette or Tina (that’s my hope speaking), but it’s quite a pity that Bette’s white dress is stained (well, I just assumed it’s stained, since she said it feels moist).

And not that I don’t understand Bette wanting to make love to her wife but every now and again a person just wants to be fu**ed. Now I don’t know what Tina’s deal was but would it have been so hard for Bette to just screw her wife in the moment. Sorry soon to be wife that is. I think this is going to become a bigger problem in their relationship than one would think but i guess i’ll just have to wait and see where you take this sory next. Can’t wait!
