The L word: Tina Kennard’s lost background

In the middle of the night Bette was still awake, lying in bed and staring at the ceiling. She couldn’t fall asleep. She repeated the events from early this evening, asking her why didn’t face her mother. She had so many questions and so much to say and even after so many years the pain of her departure was still there. Bette knew deep in her heart that her mother did what she did not from selfishness, she knew how raw her father was at times and it’s probable impossible to keep up with him. Tina’s head was resting on her chest and she lazily caressed her hair. She was so happy now, and nothing could take her happiness away from her. Not even the mightiest sorcerer on this planet. Tina on her turn sensed Bette’s uneasiness and sigh deeply opening her eyes.

“Can’t sleep?” She asked startling Bette a little.

“Oh…I’m sorry I didn’t want to wake you up…” Bette said, kissing her head.

“It wasn’t you…your heartbeat was…why are you still up?”

“I can’t stop thinking of my mother…I’m feeling guilty about early this evening. Maybe I should stay and talk to her…”

“And maybe not…” Tina said, feeling Bette’s rising a little….

“What do you mean with that…?” Bette asked

“When the time’s right you’ll have your talk…” Tina replayed, kissing Bette’s cheek and laying her head back on her chest.

    “Maybe you’re right…” Bette said exhaling…

    “And maybe I’m not…” Tina said giggling…

“Stop that…” Bette said giggling to

“Stop what? I’m just saying, that’s all…!” Tina said playfully.

They were lying in silence, Bette’s heart was beating fast, not just because Tina was so close to her and running her hand up and down on Bette’s upper arm but there was this strange feeling of uneasiness, like when you know something bad will happens and you can only waits and watch from aside. Bette sighs deeply again, looking at the clock, 2:30 am. Still too early to get up and make coffee.

“Bette…get back to sleep…it’s still so early…” Tina mumbled, not opening her eyes. Bette didn’t answer, just keep caressing her head. Tina knew there’s something more than just her mother…She sighs deeply, turning around and switching on the lights.
