    The Letter ch. 1

    The Letter

    Chapter 1

“Emma if you’re not down here in 2 minutes, you’re going to find yourself walking to school,” I heard Momma yelling as I finished brushing my teeth. That was a threat she used often. It was so not necessary. There was no way she was going to let me walk to school by myself. I had asked in the past to walk with my friends but she always came up with some lame reason that I couldn’t. I would probably be 30 and she would still want to drive me to my job. She is a little overprotective.

I grabbed my things and headed downstairs. Lyss was sitting there at the table finishing a picture she was drawing and Momma was drinking her coffee. “About time Em. Do you have everything?”

    “Yes.”

“Did you grab your lunch out of the refrigerator?” I didn’t even answer her as I walked over and took my lunch bag out and put it in my backpack. She stood and gathered her things and told Lyss to get hers also. We made it out to the car and she slowly drove us the five blocks to school. It was the last day of school and on the last day of school, we always went out to dinner to celebrate. She was asking us if we wanted to go to The Planet or somewhere else. Lyss and I looked at one another and together said The Planet. When we got to school, she kissed us and told us that she or Aunt Kit would pick us up later. I hoped it would be Aunt Kit. She always had good snacks when we got to her house. Momma gave us whole wheat this and that. It was really hard to get excited about that.

Since it was the last day of school there wasn’t much to do. We cleaned out our desks and cubbies and then played or watched the movie that was playing. By the end of the day, I was so bored that when the bell rang, I barely said goodbye to my friends. I ran down the hall to get Lyss from her class and we walked out front to see who was there to pick us up. It was Aunt Kit. Score!

    1. OMG I just finished reading the other chapter and I looked up and there was another one! Well, Bette’s part of the story…I guess I have to wait to see if Tina will be part of the story. It continues to intrigue me. You, my dear NAG, are such a superb writer!

    2. I’m with the others – let’s get Tina on the scene pronto! Although, if we’re seeing this through Emma’s 12 year old eyes….no hanky-panky? LOL! PPS.

    3. I can already tell this is going to be another great ride. It is very sad but happy at the same time. The letters are a great touch to help the girls feel close to thier other mom. Hope Bette can meet someone to help her not be so lonely. PPS
