The Long Road Home Chapter 3

    Chapter 3.

The future ain’t what it used to be. (1637)

It was after their first week of living on the streets the two young girls realised that this wasn’t the dream they thought it would be, things were hard and it was tougher than they ever imagined. They had to grow up fast if they were going to survive yet both knew it was better then their foster home.

    “I’m starving” Shane moaned.

They had found a place to sleep under one of the motorway bridges, it was where most of the run always in the city who didn’t want to be found slept.

“Yeah I know” Alex said guilty, she felt responsible for the mess they were in since it was her idea to run away.

“How much money do we have left?” Shane asked sitting up the doorway.

Alex looks in her bag she knew they had no money but she couldn’t let Shane know that.

“Enough to get some food you keep our spot here and I’ll go get us some food” Alex says getting up.

“Well I’ll come with you” Shane says starting to get up.

“No!” Alex shouts. “I mean, if you don’t stay here now we’ll have to sleep in the park again”

“Yeah, guess your right” Shane sighs sitting back down, they both knew the bridge was the safest place in the city for them to sleep.

“I won’t be long” Alex says running off down the street, leaving a very confused Shane behind.

She finally reached the local 7/11, she quickly puts on her black woolly hat and pulls her collar up to hide as much of her face as possible. She casually walks inside and starts to look around, the cashier was sat at the till reading a magazine. Alex didn’t even think she noticed her enter the shop, she started to put bags of crisps and packets of chocolate into her jacket pockets. She walks over to the large freezers at the back of the shop and was half way through putting a carton of milk up her shirt when the shop assistant shouts over to her.
