Chapter 40

Bette made her way into the kitchen where Jackie, Jake and Tina were already sitting at the table enjoying their breakfast.

Bette gave Jackie a peck on the cheek. Morning mom.

Good morning sunshine. Jackie pinched Bette on the cheek.

Bette made her way over to Jake. Hey – hows my main man? Slap me five bud! Jake raised his paw.

Good morning Baby! Bette gave Tina a quick peck on the lips. As she walked over to her chair – Bettes hand trailed along Tinas shoulders. Tina felt a chill go through her body. No matter how much Tina tried to control her – URGES – Bettes touch made her want to have her – right then and there. It took a few seconds for Tina to come back down to earth – to regain her composure.

So mom – youre coming with us to see Dr. Wilson right?

Bette, are you sure I wont be intruding?

We both really want you there – right T?

Yup – thats right. Tina smiled at her mother. Jackie smiled back at Tina. Bette couldnt help but notice that they had the same smile. She smiled to herself. She realized that when she looked at Jackie – she was seeing what Tina may look like in twenty five years. She liked what she saw. It was a natural beauty. She felt her stomach do a flip.

So Baby – what can I get you for breakfast? Tina asked as she looked Bette in the eyes.

Bette found herself getting lost in Tinas gaze.

Bette? Did you hear me?

Ah yeah um – toast – I guess. But I can get it.

No ..no – sit down – Ill get it for you. Tina looked in Bettes eyes again – she knew that if Bette could really choose what she wanted for breakfast – it sure wouldnt be toast! Tina smiled at Bette. Bette watched Tina intently as she walked across the room. Godlook at herincredible. Bette let out a heavy sigh.

Jackie leaned across the table and tried to get Bettes attention. She gently tapped on the table. Bette – somewhat startled – looked over at Jackie.

Bette – when we get back from the appointment – Im going to take Jake for a walk – ok?

A quizzical look spread across Bettes face. She wondered why Jackie was saying this – she could go for a walk whenever she wanted to.

Jackie tapped the table again – Bette – did you hear me? When we get back from the appointment – I am going to take Jake for a walk! Jackie nodded her head toward Tina.

Oh – ok Bette finally got the point – Jackie was going to make herself scarce when they got back home.

Bette replied quietly – so Tina wouldnt hear. So – as my mother in law – are you giving me your permission to spend some quality time with your little girl when we get home?

You dont need my permission – but yes – I think you should spend some QUALITY TIME with my little girl when we get home from the appointment. Jackie winked at Bette.

A month ago – Bette would have blushed at Jackies suggestion, but she was so used to having Jackie around -so comfortable with her presence, that she didnt bat an eye at the suggestion. Bette nodded and quietly mouthed, Thank you.

So Baby – heres your toast – anything else I can get you?

No – no Tina – this is great! Thank you! Bette found herself wanting so much more – but there would be time for that later.


When they arrived at Dr. Wilsons office, they got right in – there was no wait. As Tina lay on the examination table – Bette and Jackie stood on either side of her. Bette held Tinas hand – Jackie held her other hand. After introductions and pleasantries, and a pelvic exam for Tina – Dr. Wilson began doing an ultrasound.

Ok – theres your little girl – looks great! And theres your little boy! He looks great too.

Tears formed in Bettes eyes. Oh my God – look at them – theyre little people. Oh my God Tinaincredible. Bette leaned over and kissed Tina. She ran her fingers through Tinas hair – Great job mommy – beautiful jobmommy. Bette kissed Tina again. Tina wiped a tear from Bettes cheek. Tina squeezed Jackies hand. Jackie squeezed back. She smiled at Tina.

Tinaeverything looks great and right on schedule for six months. Im so happy for all of you – what a beautiful family you have! Schedule your next appointment on the way out. Ill see you soon. Any questions or problems – you know where to find me! Nice meeting you Jackie – you have a beautiful daughter – and a beautiful daughter in law.

Thank you – nice to meet you too Dr. Wilson.

Bette bent over and kissed Tina again. I love you so much Tina.

I love you too Baby.

Jackie looked at the both of them – I love all four of you!

Tina squeezed Jackies hand again. She got up and got dressed.

Bette looked at the two of them and said, Lets go home!

Jackie looked at Bette and winked – Yeah – lets go home.
