    The red scarf

Flashback. When all of them were here, happy and alive. Including Tasha. The day is a special day, one of the most important of the year for T herself. The last ceremony of the year, the one in which the relatives of soldiers were invited, where the devotion of soldiers was greeted, and the national military prizes were awarded. One day per year, for a life commitment. The most beautiful and strange day of the year.

Papi wants Alice and T. to not seeing each other before the big day. Exactly as the day when they got married. Each time someone asked her about it she answered “They are about to get one more year of commitment to each other. It’s like they are saying “I do” once again.”

(A Nathy Peluso song, “Puro Veneno” (?) )

The camera is rolling, with two shots separated by a rod. Alice is alone at home, without Tasha. She’s getting ready for the ceremony, and T. is doing the same on her side, at Papi’s house. We see both of them having a shower, singing softly and randomly some song they kept in mind. Through this duality in the image, the camera highlights their lives, their intimacy: two women for each other, their love almost inscribed in their flesh, thanks to this close-up on a tattoo that both have hidden in the hollow of their hips. Then Helena arrives on Alice’s side, hugs her, and starts helping her with her makeup. The atmosphere is soft and ceremonial, perhaps a little stressful. Papi, with T., smiles by watching her putting on this ceremonial attire, the formal men uniform she wore only on special days, that reminded her why she made that choice which was guiding her life.

Alice is getting dressed, opting for a sober and long black chasuble gown, under a burgundy silk blouse. With a bit of formality in her gesture, Helena opens a jewel case and smiles at Alice while she’s putting on the diamond jewelry.

The camera returns to the ground, and when she gradually rises, we see the same shot being made, but with Helena and Papi as protagonists. The most improbable couple is perhaps about to show-up. Helena’s wearing this pearl color long gown, knowing all the requirements about the black-tie dress code, wearing her mother’s jewelry for the first time, putting on heels and loving the reflection the mirror gave her. Concerning Papi, she kept this stem latina vibe, by wearing  a woman’s pants navy suit under a lace white top. She ties her hair, another time, but not for long anymore. By putting on just some black pencil in the hollow of her eyes, adding some mascara and lip balm, she asks herself who she is, I mean, in real life. It’s the first time she sees herself with this kind of thoughts. She suddenly recovers. T is ready. She’s smiling at her, grabs her limo’s keys, and both of them are on their way, on their way to meet their respective lover.
